Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a potentially fatal disease common in much of Europe and Asia. There is no specific therapy for the treatment of TBE patients. However, several efforts are being made to develop small molecules that specifically interfere with the life cycle of TBE virus. In particular, recently various nucleoside analogues that can inhibit the viral replicase, such as the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase or viral methyltransferases, have been explored. In addition, human or chimeric (i.e., structural chimeras that combine mouse variable domains with human constant domains) monoclonal antibodies with promising potential for post-exposure prophylaxis or early therapy have been developed. This review summarizes the latest directions and experimental approaches that may be used to combat TBE in humans.

Outcomes of theoretical models on conflict resolution between investing partners in bi-parental care systems typically predict "partial compensation" or "matched" response rules, depending on underlying assumptions. Further, although experimental tests in birds suggest that care levels by pair members are largely associated with partial compensation responses, this outcome partly depends on the type of experiment used and its effects on model assumptions. To elucidate support for both the underlying assumptions and predictions of models predicting partner compensation versus matching, we performed temporary, bi-directional brood size manipulations during late nestling provisioning in blue tits () in the French Pyrenees.

The process of proton translocation in , triggered by light, is powered by the photoisomerization of all--retinal in bacteriorhodopsin (bR). The primary events in bR involving rapid structural changes upon light absorption occur within subpicoseconds to picoseconds. While the three-state model has received extensive support in describing the primary events between the H and K states, precise characterization of each excited state in the three-state model during photoisomerization remains elusive.

The quantification of proteoforms, i.e., all molecular forms in which proteins can be present, by top-down proteomics provides essential insights into biological processes at the molecular level.

Aim: With the aim of simultaneously modulating the epigenetic system and the protein kinase pathway, we selected the enzyme histone deacetylase (HDAC) and the Rho-associated protein kinases (ROCK) as desired targets to develop potential multitarget anticancer agents with additional antimetastatic properties. We report here the rational design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of the HDAC/ROCK multitarget inhibitors in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
Materials And Methods: A molecular docking study performed with the Gold software was used to develop HDAC/ROCK multitarget inhibitors.
