Geopolymer composite spheres derived from potassium-activated graphene-modified slag/fly ash powder were produced in a polyethylene glycol (PEG 400) solvent. The effect of graphene type (graphene oxide (GO) and few-layered graphene (GNP)) on the pore structure and lead ions (Pb) removal performance of the spheres were evaluated. The results showed that the composite spheres modified with GOs (0.1-0.4 wt%) and GNPs (1-4 wt%) could be spheroidized with an improved performance to adsorb Pb in solution. The graphene-containing spheres reached a maximum BET surface area of 68.85 m/g. Pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherm models could express the adsorption process, which was controlled by both monolayer adsorption and chemisorption. The obtained spheres also showed high adsorption capacities for Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd ions. Chemical, physical, electrostatic, ion exchange and cation-π interaction were attributed to the adsorption mechanism of the spheres. The spheres showed good cycling ability compared to those without graphene, which had potential application in heavy metal wastewater treatment.

Micro- and nanomorphological modification and roughening of titanium implant surfaces can enhance osseointegration; however, the optimal morphology remains unclear. Laser processing of implant surfaces has demonstrated significant potential due to its precision, controllability, and environmental friendliness. Femtosecond lasers, through precise optimization of processing parameters, can modify the surface of any solid material to generate micro- and nanomorphologies of varying scales and roughness.

The anionic species of antimony(V) and phosphate(V) are commonly found in the contaminated soil of mining areas, exerting a significant influence on the sorption of heavy metals and thus affecting their migration. This study quantitatively discussed the sorption mechanism of Sb and P in promoting the sorption of Cd or Cu on goethite through a series of extraction methods. In the single sorption system, the majority of Cu (87-98%) is adsorbed on goethite in the form of EDTA-extractable Cu (EF Cu, possibly inner-sphere complexes) under pH conditions of 3.

Background: Rodent models have been widely used to investigate skin development, but do not account for significant differences in composition compared to human skin. On the other hand, two-dimensional and three-dimensional engineered skin models still lack the complex features of human skin such as appendages and pigmentation. Recently, hair follicle containing skin organoids (SKOs) with a stratified epidermis, and dermis layer have been generated as floating spheres from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs).

The synthesis of polymers with well-defined composition, architecture, and functionality has long been a focal area of research in the field of polymer chemistry. The advancement of controlled radical polymerization (CRP) has facilitated the synthesis of precise polymers, which are endowed with new properties and functionalities, thereby exhibiting a wide range of applications. However, radical polymerization faces several challenges, such as oxygen intolerance, and common thermal initiation methods may lead to side reactions and depolymerization.

Hybrid polyionic complexes (HPICs) are colloidal structures with a charged core rich in metal ions and a neutral hydrophilic corona. Their properties, whether as reservoirs or catalysts, depend on the accessibility and environment of the metal ions. This study demonstrates that modifying the coordination sphere of these ions can tune the properties of HPICs by altering the composition of the complexing block or varying formulation conditions.
