A new archaeococcoid (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Monophlebidae), Das & Das sp. nov., is described from specimens collected on twigs of (Retz.) DC. (Rutaceae), a medicinal plant from Kalyani, West Bengal, India. The new species is similar to Newstead 1900, but can be distinguished by different character states of ventral multilocular pores and anal tube. An updated identification key to the species of Newstead found worldwide is provided. The current status of the genus Newstead is discussed.

Iran is situated at the junctions of the Palaearctic and Oriental zoogeographical Regions, and the Caspian, Baluchi and Irano-Turanian floral zones, so it has a very diverse scale insect fauna. Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) are economically important in forestry, agriculture and horticulture. This taxonomic work on the mealybugs (Pseudococcidae and Rhizoecidae) and Putoidae of Iran is the second of three parts planned to cover all the scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) in the country.

In the past, various authors have placed many species in genera that are now understood to be restricted to other regions of the world. Thus, in Africa, species of soft scale (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccomorpha: Coccidae) with this problem are those in Ceronema Maskell, a genus probably restricted to Australia; Ceroplastodes Cockerell, probably restricted to the New World; and Inglisia Maskell, which is restricted to New Zealand. The placement of these species is reviewed here.

Two strains, H8/1 and H16/1A, of Gram-stain-positive, coagulase-negative staphylococci were isolated from separate healthy domestic dogs in Scotland. Both strains were genome sequenced and their inferred DNA-DNA hybridisation indicates that H8/1 and H16/1A represent two novel species of the genus . On the basis of the results of genome sequence analysis (genome blast distance phylogeny and single nucleotide polymorphism analysis) H8/1 is most closely related to and H16/1A most closely related to .
