AI Article Synopsis

  • Radiation-induced changes like cavernous malformations and cranial neuropathy can appear as late complications after radiation treatment, visible in post-treatment imaging.
  • Cavernous malformations are abnormal blood vessel formations in the brain, while cranial neuropathy refers to nerve damage caused by radiation, which is rare.
  • The case study discusses a patient who developed these issues 14 years after receiving radiation therapy for a brain tumor called tectal glioma.

Article Abstract

Radiation-induced (RI) changes such as radiation-induced cavernous malformations (RICMs) and radiation-induced cranial neuropathy (RICN) manifest as late delayed complications and can be seen on post-treatment imaging. Cavernous malformations (CMs) are vascular malformations that are made up of dilated, thin-walled capillary spaces without intervening brain parenchyma. Cranial nerve damage due to radiation exposure is a rare consequence of radiation therapy (RT). We present a case of intracerebral CMs/hemorrhagic vasculopathy and left seventh and eighth nerve complex cranial neuropathy 14 years following RT to the brain for tectal glioma.

[Differences of driving factors for carbon sink changes in different carbon pools of natural forests].

Ying Yong Sheng Tai Xue Bao

Carbon balance of the tree layer in natural forests is affected by three carbon pools: tree growth, morta-lity, and recruitment. However, the dynamics of the sink of each carbon pool and the driving factors are still unclear. To this end, we used stepwise regression method and structural equation model to assess the effects of biotic (stand and diversity) and abiotic (soil, topography and climate) factors on three dynamic processes of carbon sinks, namely, stand growth, recruitment and mortality, in the natural forests of , based on the data from the seventh and eighth national continuous forest inventory of the Greater Khingan Mountains.

Objective: To explore the efficacy of c in the multiline treatment of late-stage lung adenocarcinoma with Her-2 overexpression and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations.

Methods: We summarize the diagnosis and treatment of a female patient with EGFR 21L858R mutation combined with Her-2 overexpression in advanced lung adenocarcinoma, and analyze the effect of c in her treatment process.

Results: The patient was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma 8 years ago.

Association of immune-mediated diseases with the risk of dementia and brain structure in UK Biobank participants.

Age Ageing

November 2024

Department of Neurology, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, People's Republic of China.

Background: Immunity and inflammation may be essential to the pathogenesis of dementia. However, the association of immune-mediated diseases with the risk of incident dementia has not been well characterised.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the prospective association of 27 immune-mediated diseases and incident dementia risk and to explore the underlying mechanisms driven by brain structures.

Acute severe trauma is often associated with rapid blood loss and a high risk of infection. Based on these concerns, this study successfully constructed a multifunctional dual-layer bioactive sponge PCCT with rapid hemostatic and infection-preventing ability. Its external surface is an electrospun poly(lactic acid) (PLA) nanofiber thin film layer, which ensures its high air permeability and effectively protects against external bacterial invasion.

Objective: To evaluate the treatment strategies that dictate the host susceptibility to secondary bacterial infections during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Design: Setting and Participants: This nested case-control study was conducted in three general hospitals in China between December 1, 2022, to March 1, 2023. A total of 456 confirmed COVID-19 patients matched 1:2 (152 cases and 304 controls) based on age, sex, disease severity and age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index (aCCI) using Propensity-Score Matching (PSM) were included.
