Background: Simplifying the international guidelines to improve skills after training and their retention over time has been one of the top priorities in recent years. The objective of our study was to compare the results of the practical skills learned during training in basic life support with and without pulmonary ventilation.
Methods: This was a comparative study of historical cohorts consisting of undergraduate students in health sciences. In one cohort, rescue breathing was performed, and in the other, it was not. The same data collection instruments were used for both cohorts: a test type examination of knowledge, data from a smart mannequin and an instructor observation grid. The means of knowledge and practical skills scores collected by the mannequin were compared using independent sample t-tests.
Results: 497 students were recruited without significant differences between the two cohorts. The mean scores for knowledge and skills determined by the instructor and the mannequin were statistically higher in the cohort that did not perform rescue breathing.
Conclusion: Students who participated in basic life support training that did not include rescue breathing scored better than those who participated in training that included this skill. Training with only compressions simplifies the guidelines and increases learning and content retention.

Although numerous studies have focused on diagnostic biomarkers to help identify allergic rhinitis (AR), data on the characteristics of pediatric AR with different severity is limited. We aimed to compare the characteristics of pediatric AR with different severity. A total of 1054 children with AR were enrolled and classified into mild intermittent AR, mild persistent AR, moderate-to-severe intermittent AR, and moderate-to-severe persistent AR.

Bivalve mollusks are globally distributed in marine and freshwater habitats. While exhibiting a relatively uniform bodyplan that is characterized by their eponymous bivalved shell that houses the soft-bodied animal, many lineages have acquired unique morphological, physiological, and molecular innovations that account for their high adaptability to the various properties of aquatic environments such as salinity, flow conditions, or substrate composition. This renders them ideal candidates for studies into the evolutionary trajectories that have resulted in their diversity, but also makes them important players for research concerned with climate change-induced warming and acidification of aquatic habitats.

Axon guidance is a key event in neural circuit development that drives the correct targeting of axons to their targets through long distances and unique patterns. Exosomes, extracellular vesicles that are smaller than 100 nm, are secreted by most cell types in the brain. Regulation of cell-cell communication, neuroregeneration, and synapse formation by exosomes have been extensively studied.

Increasing evidence suggests that aberrant alternative splicing plays crucial roles in tumorigenesis. However, the function of EZH2 splice variants as well as the mechanism by which EZH2 alternative splicing occurs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain elusive. Here, we analyzed both our own and published transcriptomic data, obtaining 19 splice variants of EZH2 in addition to canonical full-length EZH2-A in HCC.

Maize () is India's third-largest grain crop, serving as a primary food source for at least 30% of the population and sustaining 900 million impoverished people globally. The growing human population has led to an increasing demand for maize grains. However, maize cultivation faces significant challenges due to a variety of environmental factors, including both biotic and abiotic stresses.
