Sugarcane tops silage (STS), as a source of roughage for ruminants, is rich in water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content, which significantly affects silage quality. Citric acid (CA) is a low-cost natural antimicrobial agent that can inhibit undesirable microbes and improve silage quality. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of CA on the chemical composition, fermentation quality, microbial communities, and metabolic pathways of STS with high and low WSC contents before or after aerobic exposure.

Naturally derived polysaccharides regulate gut microbiota structure via the gut-liver axis to ameliorate Alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). Acanthopanax seeds are abundant in polysaccharides; however, whether Acanthopanax seed polysaccharides (ASP) improve AFLD through the gut-liver axis remains unclear. Though the United Nations deals with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in blocs of 15 years at a time, "sustainable" indicates a longer-term focus, aiming at steady human progress, including in public health and welfare. But the alcohol history in many countries shows "long waves" of consumption, repetitively rising, then falling, then rising again. Underlying this dynamic are competing interests pushing in opposite directions.

Introduction: Many countries, including Aotearoa New Zealand, have socioeconomic and ethnic inequities in alcohol outlet density, yet the potential contribution of alcohol licensing systems is almost unexplored. After licensing reforms in Aotearoa in 2012, community groups and Māori (the Indigenous people) continued to struggle to influence decisions, prompting calls for reform and authority for Māori reflecting Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. This study explored factors in the failure of public objections in under-resourced neighbourhoods.
