To address what marker(s) is/are most suitable for determining renal cell senescence, cell area, granularity, cycle shift/arrest, SA-β-Gal, SIRT1 and p16 were evaluated after inducing senescence in HK-2 cells with 0.2-0.8 mM HO. Only cell area and granularity concentration-dependently increased at all time-points, whereas SA-β-Gal, SIRT1 and p16 showed significant coefficient of determination (R) at two time-points. Cell granularity had significant correlation coefficient (R) with other six, whereas SA-β-Gal had significant R with five, and cell area, SIRT1 and p16 had significant R with four others. Comparing to SA-β-Gal, other markers had significantly lower fold-changes only at 72-h with 0.8 mM HO, whereas p16 provided greater fold-changes at 48-h with 0.4 and 0.8 mM HO. Therefore, cell area, granularity, SA-β-Gal and p16 may serve as the most suitable markers for determining HO-induced senescence in HK-2 renal cells, whereas other markers can be also used but with inferior quantitative precision.

Retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) typically respond to light stimulation over their spatially restricted receptive field. Using large-scale recordings in the mouse retina, we show that a subset of non- direction-selective (DS) RGCs exhibit asymmetric activity, selective to motion direction, in response to a stimulus crossing an area far beyond the classic receptive field. The extraclassical response arises via inputs from an asymmetric distal zone and is enhanced by desensitization mechanisms and an inherent DS component, creating a network of neurons responding to motion toward the optic disc.

The novelty, saliency, and valency of ongoing experiences potently influence the firing rate of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the locus coeruleus (LC). Associative experience, in turn, is recorded into memory by means of hippocampal synaptic plasticity that is regulated by noradrenaline sourced from the LC, and dopamine, sourced from both the VTA and LC. Two persistent forms of synaptic plasticity, long-term potentiation (LTP), and long-term depression (LTD) support the encoding of different kinds of spatial experience.

Background: Glioblastoma is characterized by neovascularization and diffuse infiltration into the adjacent tissue. T2*-based dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MR perfusion images provide useful measurements of the biomarkers associated with tumor perfusion. This study aimed to distinguish infiltrating tumors from vasogenic edema in glioblastomas using DSC-MR perfusion images.

In recent years, the transfer of more than one embryo has become less frequent to diminish multiple pregnancies. Even so, there is still a risk of one embryo splitting into two or even three. This report presents the case of a triamniotic monochorionic gestation in a 35-year-old woman, obtained after the transfer of a single day 5 embryo that had been previously hatched with a laser and subsequently transferred in a fresh IVF cycle.

This study presents a novel approach to modeling breast cancer dynamics, one of the most significant health threats to women worldwide. Utilizing a piecewise mathematical framework, we incorporate both deterministic and stochastic elements of cancer progression. The model is divided into three distinct phases: (1) initial growth, characterized by a constant-order Caputo proportional operator (CPC), (2) intermediate growth, modeled by a variable-order CPC, and (3) advanced stages, capturing stochastic fluctuations in cancer cell populations using a stochastic operator.
