Foot tuberculosis is rarely reported in the literature, with most tuberculosis of the foot being an uncommon manifestation of skeletal tuberculosis. Early diagnosis and timely medical and surgical intervention can significantly reduce morbidity. A 23-year-old male presented with persistent swelling and pain in his right foot for six months, accompanied by a discharging sinus over the affected area in the last week, making weight-bearing increasingly difficult.

The impacts on population health by China's regional health data centers and the potential mechanism of influence.

Digit Health

January 2025

Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Background: China recently established a series of pilot regional health data centers with a mandate to acquire, consolidate, analyze, and translate data into evidence for health policy decision-making. This experiment with "big data" has the potential to influence population health and is the focus of this study.

Methods: This study used national longitudinal survey data from the China Family Panel Studies over the period 2014-2020 to empirically assess the impact of China's establishment of pilot regional health data centers on population health and health inequality.

Improved Structure-Based Histidine p Prediction for pH-Responsive Protein Design.

J Chem Inf Model

January 2025

Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre, National Research Council Canada, 6100 Royalmount Avenue, Montreal, Quebec H4P 2R2, Canada.

The near neutral p of histidine is commonly exploited to engineer pH-sensitive biomolecules. For example, histidine mutations introduced in the complementarity-determining region (CDR) of therapeutic antibodies can enhance selectivity for antigens in the acidic microenvironment of solid tumors or increase dissociation rates in the acidic early endosomes of cells. While solvent-exposed histidines typically have a p near 6.

Introduction: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) has high lifetime prevalence rates, low treatment success rates, and high rates of treatment dissatisfaction, early discontinuation of care, and recurrence. Complementary and integrative health (CIH) interventions (non-mainstream practices used with conventional approaches for whole-person treatment) hold potential to overcome many treatment barriers and improve BED treatment outcomes. Some CIH interventions have empirical support for use in eating disorders.

Studies that focus on whether psychopathy statistically predicts reoffending are not informative of the process that connects the putative cause (psychopathy) to the expected outcome (offending). Understanding the causal mechanisms responsible for the relationship between psychopathy and offending has received minimal empirical attention even though fourth-generation risk assessment protocols and treatment strategies regularly require a specific focus on psychopathy. Theory can help guide an improved understanding of the causal mechanisms underlying the relationship between psychopathy and offending.
