The light absorption and scattering by an infinite two-dimensional array with an imperfect lattice of identical spherical particles is considered based on the statistical approach to a description of electromagnetic wave interaction with particulate media. Absorption resonances due to the coherent component of scattered light (zeroth order of diffraction) and resonances arising from the excitation of a flux of incoherently scattered light (higher diffraction orders) propagating at grazing angles to the array plane are studied. The dependence of absorption on the degree of positional ordering of particles is considered. It is shown that with an increase in ordering, the spatial coherence of the light flux along the array plane increases and the absorption resonance becomes more pronounced. Data are presented for silver wavelength-sized particles for - and -polarized incident waves. It is shown that at small angles of incidence, the first diffraction order can arise at the wavelength of zeroth-order resonance. In this case, the contributions to absorption created by the coherent and incoherent components of scattered light are summed up. The value of the absorption coefficient can be close to 0.95. A comparison with data for a partially ordered array is carried out.

The brain, as a vital part of central nervous system, receives approximately 25% of body's blood supply, making accurate monitoring of cerebral blood flow essential. While fNIRS is widely used for measuring brain physiology, complex tissue structure affects light intensity, spot size, and detection accuracy. Many studies rely on simulations with limited experimental validation.

Background: The detection of multiple bluetongue virus serotypes, increasing trend in livestock density, rich biological diversity with high endemism, and the status of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a popular tourist destination underscore the need for a faunistic survey of medically and veterinary significant vector species, specifically Culicoides, in this region. Moreover, scattered information on Indian Culicoides species complicates the planning and implementation of preventive measures for pathogens transmitted by these vectors. This study aims to provide the first comprehensive account of the Culicoides fauna in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, along with an updated checklist of Indian Culicoides species and their state-wise distribution.

In the realm of hybrid nanomaterials, the construction of core/shell nanoparticles offer an effective strategy for encompassing a particle by a polymeric or other suitable material, leading to a nanocomposite with distinct features within its structure. The polymer shell can be formed via nanoprecipitation, optimized by manipulating fluid flow, fluid mixing, modulating device features in microfluidics. In addition to the process optimization, success of polymer assembly in encapsulation strongly lies upon the favorable molecular interactions originating from the diverse chemical environment shared between core and shell materials facilitating formation of core/shell nanostructure.

In this article we describe research on the synthesis and characterization of a family of "Janus" amphiphiles composed of disaccharide head groups and alkaloid units joined together via a methylene linker, and bearing a lateral aliphatic chain of varying length. The condensed phases formed by self-organization of the products as a function of temperature were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermal polarized light microscopy, and small angle X-ray scattering, allied with computational modelling and simulations. Structural studies on heating specimens from the solid showed that some homologues exhibited lamellar, columnar and bicontinuous mesophases, whereas the same homologues revealed different phase sequences on cooling from the amorphous liquid.

Neurophysiology Research Center, Cellular and Molecular Medicine Research Institute, Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Urmia, Iran.

Breast cancer (BC) with aggressive metastasis is a serious ongoing public health problem among women. Graphene oxide (GO) has an inhibitory effect on the migration rate and metastasis of BC cells, but its various aspects have not yet been explored. This paper aims to research into the effect of GO nanoparticles (GO-Np) on the migratory behavior of MDA-MB-231 as a metastatic human BC cell line.
