Background: While there is mounting evidence that closed suction drains are not necessary, there is a paucity of literature to demonstrate that drains are harmful after breast reduction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of drains on postoperative seroma, hematoma, and infection, as well as elucidate any risk factors that may be implicated in the development of these complications.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted of all reduction mammaplasty procedures at our university medical center between 2010-2020.

Electrolyte imbalance management is crucial in diverse clinical scenarios, with intravenous potassium repletion often required. High-concentration infusions can pose severe complications if extravasation occurs, leading to phlebitis, local tissue damage, or in severe cases, cutaneous necrosis. This risk is elevated in geriatric patients due to factors like reduced tissue elasticity and sensitivity.

Background: The goal of cytoreductive surgery for peritoneal malignancy is to remove all macroscopic disease, which occasionally requires the excision of the umbilicus. While the absence of the umbilicus can be aesthetically undesirable for patients, umbilical reconstruction is rarely performed due to the perceived complexity and increased risk of wound infections (Sakata et al. in Colorectal Dis 23:1153-1157, 2021).
