Valvular heart disease (VHD) leading to inadequate hemodynamic circulation is a major cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Right ventricular-pulmonary artery (RV-PA) coupling integrates the ability of RV contractility to adapt to increased pulmonary arterial afterload. If the right ventricle cannot adapt to the elevated afterload by increasing its contractile function, RV-PA uncoupling occurs.

Introduction: Decreased left atrial appendage emptying velocity (LAAV) is a marker for thrombus formation. This study evaluates the association between LAAV and inflammatory indices in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) patients.
Methods: The study population was 1428 patients with AF, 875 of whom enrolled.

Background: The therapeutic armamentarium for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains notably constrained. A factor contributing to this problem could be the scarcity of in vitro models for HFpEF, which hinders progress in developing new therapeutic strategies. Here, we aimed at developing a novel, comorbidity-inspired, human, in vitro model for HFpEF.

We describe, to our knowledge, the first use in Dubai of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) in a patient who suffered intraoperative cardiac arrest due to presumed cardiac channelopathy. A 40-year-old patient presented for open myomectomy surgery. She had no other medical problems apart from obesity.

Short-term blockade of the protein S100A9 improves cardiac performance in mice after myocardial infarction (MI). The implications upon ATP production during this process are not known.
