Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are regarded as attractive candidates for next-generation energy storage devices. Among various cathode materials, VO·nHO (VOH) possesses a high theoretical capacity but poor cycle stability due to the susceptibility of its open structure to damage by the quick shuttling of Zn. Herein, the structural stability of VOH is directly improved by wrapping polyaniline (PANI) on the VOH nanobelts (VOH@PANI). As a cathode material for AZIBs, the VOH nanobelts@PANI core-shell structures exhibit an outstanding cycle stability of 98% after 2000 cycles at 2 A g. The improved conductivity and additional energy storage contribution of the PANI endow VOH@PANI with a specific capacity as high as 440 mAh g at 0.1 A g, substantially higher than pure VOH (291 mAh g). At the same time, high energy and power densities of 349 Wh kg and 3347 W kg are achieved. This work not only demonstrates that p-type doped PANI coatings on VOH can boost the Zn storage of VOH, but also provides a novel method to enhance cathode materials for high electrochemical performance.

Room temperature (RT) synthesized mixed bromine and chlorine CsPbBrCl perovskite quantum dots (Pe-QDs) offer notable advantages for blue quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), such as cost-effective processing and narrow luminescence peaks. However, the efficiency of blue QLEDs using these RT-synthesized QDs has been limited by inferior crystallinity and deep defect presence. In this study, we demonstrate a precise approach to constructing high-quality gradient core-shell (CS) structures of CsPbBrCl QD through anion exchange.

A variety of ZnCdS-based semiconductor nanoparticle heterostructures with extended exciton lifetimes were synthesized to enhance the efficacy of photocatalytic hydrogen production in water. Specifically, doped nanoparticles (NPs), as well as core/shell NPs with and without palladium and platinum co-catalysts, were solubilized into water using various methods to assess their efficacy for solar H fuel synthesis. The best results were obtained with low bandgap ZnCdS cores and ZnCdS/ZnS core/shell NPs with palladium co-catalysts.

A Hierarchical Core-Shell Structure of NiO@CuO-CF for Effective Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Glucose Detection.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Electronic Functional Materials and Devices, Huizhou University, Huizhou 516001, China.

Non-enzymatic glucose detection is an effective strategy to control the blood glucose level of diabetic patients. A novel hierarchical core-shell structure of nickel hydroxide shell coated copper hydroxide core based on copper foam (Ni(OH)@Cu(OH)-CF) was fabricated and derived from NiO@CuO-CF for glucose sensing. Cyclic voltammetry and amperometry experiments have demonstrated the efficient electrochemical catalysis of glucose under alkaline conditions.

Heterostructures comprise two or more different semiconducting materials stacked either as co-assemblies or self-sorted based on their dynamics of aggregates. However, self-sorting in heterostructures is rather significant in improving the short exciton diffusion length and charge separation. Despite small organic molecules being known for their self-sorting nature, macrocyclic are hitherto unknown owing to unrestrained assemblies from extended π-conjugated systems.

MXenes, have been considered as a new generation anode material in lithium-ion batteries for lower lithium-ion diffusion barriers and superior conductivity. Unfortunately, their structures are prone to aggregation and stacking, hindering further shuttle of lithium ions and electrons, resulting in lower discharge capacity. Therefore, the introduction of interlayer spacers for the preparation of MXene-based hybrids has attracted much attention.
