Whole-brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data from twenty healthy human participants were collected during naturalistic movie watching and free spoken recall tasks. Participants watched ten short (approximately 2 - 8 min) audiovisual movies and then verbally described what they remembered about the movies in their own words. Participants' verbal responses were audio recorded using an MR-compatible microphone. The audio recordings were transcribed and timestamped by independent coders. The neural and behavioral data were organized in the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) format and made publicly available via OpenNeuro.org. The dataset can be used to explore the neural bases of naturalistic memory and other cognitive functions including but not limited to visual/auditory perception, language comprehension, and speech generation.

Everything that the brain sees must first be encoded by the retina, which maintains a reliable representation of the visual world in many different, complex natural scenes while also adapting to stimulus changes. This study quantifies whether and how the brain selectively encodes stimulus features about scene identity in complex naturalistic environments. While a wealth of previous work has dug into the static and dynamic features of the population code in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), less is known about how populations form both flexible and reliable encoding in natural moving scenes.

Previous work has explored the bi-directional relation between alcohol consumption and gambling behavior within gambling contexts, highlighting the role of salient factors such as mood. The present experiment sought to further explore how mood state and the urge to consume alcohol vary as a function of the experience of winning or losing while gambling. In this experiment, 76 individuals who reported past year gambling and past month alcohol use were randomly assigned to one of four conditions - neutral gambling, winning gambling, losing gambling, or movie watching.
