The application of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in antibacterial materials, glucose detection, etc., is of broad interest for researchers around the world. Nanocellulose with many excellent properties can be used as a carrier and stabilizer to assist in the synthesis of AgNPs. In this study, cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were used to assist in the synthesis of AgNPs under the reduction of glucose and detection of glucose concentration under different conditions. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis showed that the AgNPs in the nanocellulose-AgNPs (NC-AgNPs) system were roughly spherical and randomly distributed on the nanocellulose. In the whole reaction system, when the concentration of nanocellulose is 0.11 mg/mL, the concentration of silver ammonia solution is 0.6 mM, and the mixing time is 2.5 h, according to the UV-Vis analysis, the absorbance of CNF-AgNPs at 425 nm exhibited a good linear relationship (R = 0.9945) with the glucose concentration range (5-50 μM), while the absorbance of CNC-AgNPs at 420 nm showed a good linear relationship (R = 0.9956) with the glucose concentration range (5-35 μM). The synthesis of NC-AgNPs can be further developed into a sensor with higher sensitivity and higher stability for detecting glucose concentration and a material with antibacterial effects.

Background: Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) health, a term recently defined by the American Heart Association, encompasses the interplay among metabolic, chronic kidney, and cardiovascular risk factors. We aimed to investigate the predictive significance of CKM disorders with the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease (AD) and AD-related dementia (ADRD) mortality in a multiethnic population.

Method: We analyzed a cohort of 6,440 adults aged 45-84 who participated in the Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, with a baseline survey conducted in 2000-2002, and were followed through to December 2015.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is a public health crisis, and its lasting consequences are not yet fully understood. Epidemiological data suggest that low- and middle-income countries, such as Brazil, will bear a considerable burden of COVID-19-related comorbidities. Individuals who have survived COVID-19 often report persistent symptoms, including neurological manifestations such as brain fog.

Background: Cognitive dysfunction is more common in individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) compared to the general population. Blood-based biomarkers are accurate in identifying early signs of neurodegeneration. However, studies using these biomarkers in T1D are lacking.

Context: In males of normal weight, intraduodenal administration of calcium enhances the effects of the amino acid, L-tryptophan (Trp), to suppress energy intake, associated with greater stimulation of cholecystokinin (CCK), glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and peptide tyrosine-tyrosine (PYY) secretion (key mechanisms underlying the regulation of pyloric motility and gastric emptying), but not gastrin or glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).

Objective: Given the implications for the management of obesity, the current study evaluated the effects of calcium, when administered alone and in combination with Trp, on gut hormone secretion, antropyloroduodenal motility and energy intake in males with obesity.

Methods: Fifteen males with obesity and without type 2 diabetes (mean±SD; age: 27±8 years; body mass index: 30±2 kg/m2; HbA1c: 5.

Background: Alzheimer's disease is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder with a complex pathogenesis. One main pathological feature utilised in diagnosis is neurodegeneration or neuronal injury, which is reflected in reductions in cerebral glucose metabolism measured by [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET). Here we evaluated the involvement of glial reactivity measured with magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and cerebral blood flow measured with arterial spin labelling (ASL) on [18F]FDG PET as a measure of cerebral glucose metabolism.
