Objective: Duodenoscopy-associated infections and outbreaks are reported globally despite strict adherence to duodenoscope reprocessing protocols. Therefore, new developments in the reprocessing procedure are needed.
Design: We evaluated a novel dynamic flow model for an additional cleaning step between precleaning and manual cleaning in the reprocessing procedure.
Methods: A parallel plate flow chamber with a fluorinated ethylene propylene bottom plate was used to mimic the duodenoscope channels. The flow chamber was inoculated with a suspension containing to simulate bacterial contamination during a duodenoscopic procedure. After inoculation the flow chamber was flushed with a detergent mimicking precleaning. Subsequently the flow chamber was subjected to different interventions: flow with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), flow with 2 commercial detergents, flow with sodium dodecyl sulfate with 3 different concentrations, and flow with microbubbles. Adhering bacteria were counted using phase-contrast microscopy throughout the experiment, and finally, bacterial viability was assessed.
Results: During precleaning both PBS and 1% (v/v) Neodisher Mediclean Forte were able to desorb bacteria, but neither proved superior. After precleaning only sodium dodecyl sulfate could desorb bacteria.
Conclusions: Flushing during precleaning is an essential step for reducing adhering luminal bacteria, and sodium dodecyl sulfate is a promising detergent for bacterial desorption from duodenoscope channels after precleaning.

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), ricin, and many other biological toxins are called AB toxins possessing heterogeneous A and B subunits. We propose herein a quick and safe sensing approach to AB toxins based on their unique quaternary structures. The proposed approach utilizes IgG antibodies against their A-subunits in combination with those human cell-membrane glycolipids that act as the natural ligands of B-subunits.

This study demonstrates that machine learning from seismograms, obtained from commonly deployed seismometers, can identify the early stages of slope failure in the field. Landslide hazards negatively impact the economy and public through disruption, damage of infrastructure and even loss of life. Triggering factors leading to landslides are broadly understood, typically associated with rainfall, geological conditions and steep topography.

Aims: Atrial septal defect (ASD) and partial abnormal pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) are noncyanotic congenital heart defects (CHD) that produce a left-to-right shunt. This single-center retrospective study aimed to assess the hemodynamic impact of isolated ASD, isolated PAPVC, and ASD-associated PAPVC using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
Methods And Results: From our CMR registry (2002-2024), 110 patients were included: isolated ASD (n=64), isolated PAPVC (n=18), ASD-associated PAPVC (n=28, mostly sinus venosus septal defects).

The process of angiogenesis plays a pivotal role in skin regeneration, ensuring the provision of nutrients and oxygen to the nascent tissue, thanks to the formation of novel microvascular networks supporting functional tissue regeneration. Unfortunately, most of the current therapeutic approaches for skin regeneration lack vascularization, required to promote effective angiogenesis. Thus, tridimensional models, complemented with specific biochemical signals, can be a valuable tool to unravel the neovascularization mechanisms and develop novel clinical strategies.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the correlation between specific clinical parameters, such as axial eye length, and the onset of ocular hypertension "OH" following the use of silicone oil filling in patients with high myopia.
Method: In this retrospective analysis, we reviewed 214 eyes from 432 patients diagnosed with severe myopia, all of whom underwent vitrectomy and were treated with silicone oil filling. The study aimed to document the incidence and timing of postoperative ocular hypertension "OH" while assessing various factors, including demographic details, medical history, additional surgical interventions, and findings from supplementary examinations (such as axial length, silicone oil emulsification, and anterior chamber penetration).
