An unprecedented family of three- and five-membered substituted anionic derivatives of parent pnictogenylboranes is herein reported. Reacting various combinations of the pnictogenylboranes H E'-BH -NMe (E'=P, As) with pnictogen-based nucleophiles MER1R2 (E=P, As; R1=H, R2= Bu; R1=R2=Ph; M=Na, K) allows for the isolation of the unsymmetrical products [Na(18-crown-6)][H E'-BH -EH Bu] (3: E=E'=P; 4: E=E'=As; 5: E=As, E'=P) and [M(C)][H E'-BH -EPh ] (7: E=E'=P, M=Na, C=18-crown-6; 8: E=E'=As; M=K, C=[2.2.2]cryptand; 9: E=P, E'=As, M=Na, C=[2.2.2]cryptand; 10: E=As, E'=P, M=K, C=[2.2.2]cryptand). [Na(18-crown-6)][H As-BH - BuPH-BH ] (6) is only accessible by a different pathway, using BuPH , BH  ⋅ SMe and NaNH as starting materials. Additionally, the synthesis of symmetrical diphenyl-substituted compounds [M(18-crown-6)][Ph E-BH -EPh ] (11: E=P, M=Na; 12: E=As, M=K) is reported which can be regarded as isostructural inorganic, negatively charged analogs of dppm (1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) and dpam (1,1-bis(diphenylarsino)methane). Furthermore, an elongation of the pnictogen boron backbone in compounds 3, 7 and 9' (similar compound to 9, stabilized however by 18-crown-6), is attainable by reacting them with the pnictogenylboranes H E'-BH -NMe leading to corresponding five-membered chain-like compounds [Na(18-crown-6)][H E-BH -R1R2P-BH -E'H ] (E=E'=P, R1=H, R2= Bu (13); E=E'=P, R1=R2=Ph (14); E=E'=As, R1=R2=Ph (15); E=P, E'=As, R1=R2=Ph (16)). Finally, the thermodynamics of the reaction pathways were evaluated by quantum chemical computations.

The in-depth research on the charge transport properties of BN-embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (BN-PAHs) still lags far behind studies of their emitting properties. Herein, we report the successfully synthesis of novel ladder-type BN-PAHs (BCNL1 and BCNL2) featuring a highly ordered BC3N2 acene unit, achieved via a nitrogen-directed tandem C-H borylation. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique and compact herringbone packing structures.

Sulfonamides (SAs) are one of the major emerging contaminants of concern, but comparative studies on the degradation of different types of SAs are still limited. This work comprehensively compared the degradation of sulfadiazine (SDZ), sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and sulfathiazole (STZ) under UV light in peracetic acid (PAA) from both experimental and theoretical aspects, as they represent two structural classes based on substituent differences. The two SAs with five-membered heterocyclic substituents (SMX, STZ) generally decomposed at faster rates, with SMX degrading up to 10 times faster than SDZ (pH = 3; PAA dosage = 80 mg/L).

The title racemic oxopyrrolidine compound, CHNO, contains three stereogenic centres and crystallizes with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The five-membered pyrrolidine rings in both mol-ecules exhibit envelope conformations. The -ethyl group of one of the mol-ecules is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.

A Stable Carbon-Centered Radical Showing Six Amphoteric Redox States.

An air- and moisture-stable hydrocarbon radical with four six- and three five-membered rings alternately fused to a heptacycle was obtained by ortho fusion in a suitably ortho,ortho'-substituted diphenylfluorene and subsequent re-establishment of the conjugation. The radical was obtained in five consecutive steps from commercially available starting materials with a total yield of 34 %; key steps are Suzuki couplings and cyclizing SAr reactions. Mesityl substituents at the five-membered rings ensure the stability of the radical.

Context: While the pure Au cluster tends to exist in a 3D cage shape, the doubly doped W@Au is found to prefer a tubular form containing three five-membered Au rings stabilized by the W dimer vertically placed inside a tube-like Au framework. Formation of self-assembled nanotubes containing five-membered Au rings from the tube-like W@Au cluster is also feasible, and such a tubular structure constitutes an ideal building block for generating gold-assembled nanotubes, providing us with a useful approach for designing some novel tailor-made materials with interesting optoelectronic properties.

Methods: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the TPSS functional and the cc-pVDZ-PP basis set are employed to determine some noticeable effects of the doping of the W dimer on the structure, stability, and optical properties of pure Au16 gold clusters.
