In this work, a new strategy has been reported for the portable detection of HS based on Fe-doped hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (Fe-HA) using a colorimetric paper test strip integrated with a smartphone platform. Fe-HA NPs were fabricated successfully via recycling waste coal ash. The obtained probe response toward HS was through a distinct visual color change. The sensing mechanism is based on the displacement reaction, in which PO is replaced by S. The prepared test strip shows high selectivity, and the other compounds containing thiol and sulfur anion have a negligible effect on the detection of HS. The designed scheme is applied for HS detection in the concentration range of 0.5-130 ppm with a limit of detection of 70 ppb. Furthermore, such a disposable sensor was used as a practical system for monitoring HS in actual water samples, suggesting the promising potential of this platform for suitable analysis of HS in an aqueous environment.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a devastating disease with poor survival rates. Here, we evaluated iron-doped hydroxyapatite (FeHA) as a potential nanomedicine-based approach to combat PDAC. FeHA, in combination with a sublethal dose of the glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) inhibitor RSL3, was found to trigger ferroptosis in KRAS mutant PANC-1 cells, but not in BxPC3 cells, while sparing normal human cells (fibroblasts and peripheral blood mononuclear cells).

The heterojunction structure of the photocatalyst composite, which necessitates a robust interface and sufficient contact areas, holds the key to obtaining high charge carrier migration efficiency. Here, a novel composite, TiO nanoparticles/Fe-doped hydroxyapatite (TONPs/FH_CS), is fabricated using a two-step synthetic technique, in which FH_CS is synthesized from artificial converter slag enriched with Fe and Ca. The unique nanorod@plate structure of FH_CS enables the uniform immobilization of TONPs onto FH_CS.

Hydroxyapatite (HA, CaPO(OH)) is a widely explored material in the experimental domain of biomaterials science, because of its resemblance with natural bone minerals. Specifically, in the bioceramic community, HA doped with multivalent cations (e.g.

Postnatal fracture healing of atrophic long bone diaphyseal nonunions remains a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Paucity of autologous spongiosa has potentiated the use of tissue engineered bone grafts to improve success rates of bone marrow engraftment used in plate reosteosynthesis. Herein, the development and in vitro validation of a "sandwich-type" biofabricated diaphyseal cross-sectional unit, with an outer mechanically robust bioprinted cortical bone shell, encompassing an engineered bone marrow, are reported.
