The recirculation of venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) will decrease the efficiency of respiratory support. We report a patient with refractory severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Even with the support of ECMO and mechanical ventilation (MV), it is still difficult to correct hypoxemia. In this case, we placed a balloon catheter above the ECMO drainage cannula in inferior vena cava (IVC), and then occlusion the IVC with the water-filled balloon. After the occlusion, the patient's hypoxemia was quickly improved, and angiography proved that the recirculation has been significantly reduced. In this case, IVC occlusion technology greatly reduces recirculation. Its advantages lie in simple operation, low cost, short term safety, which probably act as an innovative method to reduce recirculation.

Background And Objectives: The liver, a vital metabolic organ, is always susceptible to various diseases that ultimately lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, acute liver failure, chronic liver failure, and even cancer. Optimal and specific medicine delivery in various diseases, hepatectomy, shunt placement, and other surgical interventions to reduce liver damage, transplantation, optimal preservation, and revival of the donated organ all rely on a complete understanding of perfusion and mass transfer in the liver. This study aims to simulate the computational fluid dynamics of perfusion and the temporal-spatial distribution of a medicine in a healthy liver to evaluate the hemodynamic characteristics of flow and medicine transport with the purpose of more effective liver treatment.

A circular shunt, initially described by Shone et al. in 1962, refers to abnormal blood recirculation through complete intracardiac or intra- and extracardiac communications, bypassing the capillary beds. This pathophysiological condition is most commonly associated with complex congenital heart defects, such as Ebstein's malformation, pulmonary atresia, Gerbode defect, and so on.

The technology of powdered coal injection with recirculating flue gas and natural gas conditioning for reburning represents an advanced and innovative approach to enhancing the efficiency of coal powder reburning. By consuming excess oxygen in the recirculated flue gas, natural gas fosters an environment enriched with reducing agents, which stimulates the reactivity of reburning coal powder and augments its effectiveness in reducing nitrogen oxides (NO). This technology has been comprehensively investigated through experiments conducted in a segmented multi-reactor flow system, simulating conditions akin to those in industrial boilers.
