Groundwater can be contaminated by PFAS emissions, yet research on the presence and associated risks of PFAS in groundwater underlying different land-use areas remains limited. Herein, high-resolution mass spectrometry-based suspect and nontarget analyses were performed to determine PFAS occurrence in groundwater samples obtained from a rural area, a planting region, and the vicinities of a pharmaceutical park, an airport, and an industrial park in Datong City, China. A total of 31 PFAS (16 emerging and 15 legacy PFAS) were identified, and the ΣPFAS concentrations ranged from 0.

Bioremediation of trichloroethene (TCE)-contaminated sites often leads to groundwater acidification, while nitrate-polluted sites tend to generate alkalization. TCE and nitrate often coexist at contaminated sites; however, the pH variation caused by nitrate self-alkalization and TCE self-acidification and how these processes affect nitrate reduction and reductive dichlorination, have not been studied. This study investigated the interaction between nitrate and TCE, two common groundwater co-contaminants, during bioreduction in serum bottles containing synthetic mineral salt media and microbial consortia.

Atmospheric ozone chemistry involves various substances and reactions, which makes it a complex system. We analyzed data recorded by Switzerland's National Air Pollution Monitoring Network (NABEL) to showcase the capabilities of machine learning (ML) for the prediction of ozone concentrations (daily averages) and to document a general approach that can be followed by anyone facing similar problems. We evaluated various artificial neural networks and compared them to linear as well as non-linear models deduced with ML.

Astaxanthin is a natural antioxidant substance, but it can be easily degraded by light, heat, and oxidation. One solution to overcome these problems is to transform astaxanthin into nanoemulsion within a protective matrix produced during an encapsulation process. In this study astaxanthin nanoemulsion (ANE) and chitosan (CS) incorporated with ANE (CS-ANE) were fabricated using high-pressure homogenizer (HPH).

Senescence significantly contributes to aging in various tissues, influenced by factors such as lysosomal alkalinization, which disrupts autophagic flux and accumulates toxic substances. This disruption leads to oxidative stress, increased lysosomal permeability, cellular senescence, and apoptosis. Similar to mammalian lysosomes, S.
