To fulfill the increasing needs of diagnostic support for researchers in plasma technology, a portable diagnostic package (PDP) equipped for both laser Thomson scattering (TS) and optical emission spectroscopy has been designed and constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), aiming to measure the temperature and number density of electrons and temperatures of ions in plasma devices. The PDP has been initially implemented on a high density and low temperature electrothermal arc source (ET-arc) at ORNL to test its TS capability. TS from the plasmas in the ET-arc has been obtained using the PDP. The electron temperature and number density were determined from TS spectra. These results were then compared to measurements from previous studies on the ET-arc. The TS diagnostic measured 0.8 ± 0.1, 1.3 ± 0.2, and 0.7 ± 0.1 eV and (4.4 ± 0.5) × 10, (5.9 ± 0.7) × 10, and (4.3 ± 0.5) x 10 m, respectively, from three lines of sight that transect the plasma column.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) serve as potential biomarkers for many diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and cardiovascular conditions. The portable and accurate detection of miRNA is of great significance for the early diagnosis, treatment optimization and prognostic evaluation of diseases. Herein, a photothermal/visual dual-mode assay for let-7a is developed utilizing oxidized 3, 3', 5, 5' - tetramethylbenzidine (oxTMB) as signal reporter.

Infectious diseases, especially respiratory infections, have been significant threats to human health. Therefore, it is essential to develop rapid, portable, and highly sensitive diagnostic methods for their control. Herein, a short-time preamplified, one-pot clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) nucleic acid detection method (SPOC) is developed by combining the rapid recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) with CRISPR-Cas12a to reduce the mutual interference and achieve facile and rapid molecular diagnosis.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea has been associated with various urinary system diseases, including prostatic hyperplasia and nocturia. Recently, it has been linked to prostate cancer. This study investigated the relationship between the apnea hypopnea index, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, and changes in PSA.

Introduction: Combined uveitis-rheumatology clinics (combined clinics) are a relatively recent clinical care model. Here we report the demographics, ocular and systemic disease characteristics, and medications utilized in patients seen in a combined clinic at a tertiary care hospital in the USA.
Methods: Medical records were reviewed of patients seen at the Combined Clinic at the University of Colorado Hospital between January 1, 2016 and November 1, 2023.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) represents a critical health challenge characterized by a significant reduction in blood flow to the heart, leading to high rates of mortality and morbidity. Cardiac troponins, specifically cardiac troponin I and cardiac troponin T, are essential proteins involved in cardiac muscle contraction and serve as vital biomarkers for the diagnosis of AMI. Aptasensors utilize synthetic aptamers or peptides with high affinity for specific biomarkers and offer a promising approach for integration into portable, user-friendly point-of-care (POC) applications.
