A portable sensor for visual monitoring of Fe and HO, two-dimensional CoO modified by nano-IrO (IrO@2D CoO) was prepared in this work, for the first time, with the help of microwave radiation at 140 °C, which was further stabilized onto common test strips. The present IrO@2D CoO possessed superior dual-function enzyme-like activity with low toxicity and excellent biocompatibility. Especially, trace Fe and HO could exclusively alter their enzyme-like catalytic activity with discriminating hyperchromic or hypochromic effect, i.e., from blue to colorless or to dark blue for both IrO@2D CoO dispersion and its functionalized test strips. The linear regression equations were A = 0.5940 - 0.00041 c (10 M, R = 0.9927) for Fe and ∆A = 0.0023 c + 0.00025 (10 M, R = 0.9982) for HO, respectively. When applied to visual monitoring of aqueous Fe and intercellular HO, the recoveries were 101.2 ~ 102.5% and 95.8 ~ 103.7% with detection limits of 1.25 × 10 mol/L and 1.02 × 10 mol/L, respectively, far below the permitted values in drinking water set by the World Health Organization. The mechanisms for the enhancing enzyme-mimetic activity of IrO@2D CoO and its selective responses to Fe and HO were investigated in detail.

Heterogeneous photoelectrocatalysis systems have recently seen significant growth in organic transformations, but are limited by the inherent physicochemical properties of electrode materials. To enhance selectivity in these processes, we propose an innovative advancement in the rational design of photoanodes. Specifically, we incorporated cobalt porphyrin co-catalysts with confined Co sites onto bismuth vanadate films as a photoanode.

Herein, we report how merging and clipping nets in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be controlled in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal fashion using three different approaches─the merged net, clip-off chemistry, and linker reinstallation─to design and synthesize three- and two-merged net MOFs. Initially, we show the formation of three isoreticular three-merged net MOFs by linking a trimeric Sc cluster, Sc(μ-Ο)(-COO), with ditopic zigzag and tritopic linkers. The resulting MOFs exhibit three-merged edge-transitive nets─ + + ─for the first time.

Solution-phase epitaxy is a versatile method to synthesize functional nanomaterials with customized properties, where supports play a central role as they not only serve as nucleation templates but also greatly affect the local electronic structures. However, developing functional supports remains a great challenge. Herein, inspired by the commonly observed epitaxy of minerals in the natural environment, we report using calcination-modified kaolinite as the support for the epitaxial growth of hexagonal CoO nanoparticles (-CoO NPs), which enables over 40 times higher mass-specific activity toward HO electrochemical activation than the counterpart without the support.

Among the various studies on CO2 utilization, the sustainable and cost-effective fixation of CO2 into cyclic carbonates remains one of the most intriguing subjects. To this end, a novel type of composite dicationic ionic liquid material, DIL@PDIL, was developed. This composite consists of a dicationic ionic liquid (DIL), DMAP[TMGH]Br, supported on a polymeric dicationic ionic liquid (PDIL), P-DVB/Im[TMGH]Br.

Acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has long been the bottleneck of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis. Ru- and Ir-based oxides are currently state-of-the-art electrocatalysts for acidic OER, but their high cost limits their widespread application. CoO is a promising alternative, yet the performance requires further improvement.
