Developing strategies enabling the modification of underlying molecular frameworks facilitates access to underexplored chemical spaces. Skeletal editing is an emerging technology for late-stage diversification of bioactive molecules. However, the current state of this knowledge remains undeveloped. This work describes a simple protocol that "inserts" a nitrogen atom into arylcycloalkenes to form the corresponding -heterocycles. The use of an inexpensive cobalt catalyst under aqueous and open-air conditions makes this protocol very practical. Examples of late-stage modification of compounds of pharmaceutical interest and complex fused ring compounds further demonstrated the potentially broad applicability of this methodology.

This study uses the Quantum ESPRESSO code to introduce Hubbard correction (U) to the density functional theory (DFT) in order to examine the effects of non-metals (C, F, N, and S) doping on the structural, electronic, and optical characteristics of rutile TiO. Rutile TiO is a substance that shows promise for use in renewable energy production, including fuels and solar energy, as well as environmental cleanup. Its wide bandgap, however, restricts their uses to areas with UV light.

The mitochondrial flavoenzymes proline dehydrogenase (PRODH) and hydroxyproline dehydrogenase (PRODH2) catalyze the first steps of proline and hydroxyproline catabolism, respectively. The enzymes are targets for chemical probe development because of their roles in cancer cell metabolism (PRODH) and primary hyperoxaluria (PRODH2). Mechanism-based inactivators of PRODH target the FAD by covalently modifying the N5 atom, with N-propargylglycine (NPPG) being the current best-in-class of this type of probe.

In the typical ionothermal synthesis of crystalline carbon nitride (CCN), alkali metal halides are usually used in large amounts. Here, we report a new method for synthesizing poly (heptazine imide) (PHI) using only a trace amount of NaF, which is 20 times less than the amount of NaCl typically required to achieve the PHI structure. Different from the prevailing view that salts function primarily as templates and chelating agents during polymerization, our research revealed the unique role that NaF plays in the polymerization of PHI.

We found that the antimalarial medication mefloquine (MFQ) permeabilized the bacterial cell membrane of , decreased membrane fluidity, and caused physical injury to the membrane. MFQ also maintained activity across different pH conditions (PH range 5-8).
