Bactericidal efficacy of low dose gaseous ozone against clinically relevant multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Front Microbiol

December 2024

Division of Host-Microbe Systems and Therapeutics, Department of Pediatrics, University of California San Diego, La Jolla, CA, United States.

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) pose a significant challenge in acute care hospitals, particularly in intensive care units, due to persistent environmental contamination despite existing disinfection protocols and manual cleaning methods. Current disinfection methods are labor-intensive and often ineffective against multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, highlighting the need for new, automated, hands-free approaches.

Methods: This study evaluates the bactericidal efficacy of low concentrations of gaseous ozone (5 ppm) against clinically relevant and often MDR bacteria under various concentrations, contact times, temperatures, and environmental conditions.

This study explored the use of virtual reality (VR) in disaster preparedness education, focusing on VR scenarios, disaster types, and user interactivity to identify gaps in existing research. A scoping review methodology, based on the Arksey and O'Malley framework and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines, was used, and the protocols were registered in the UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN000052800). The review included PubMed, CINAHL, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library, and Ichushi-Web of the Japan Medical Abstract Society, with data up to January 31, 2024.

Unlabelled: recovery from pulmonary samples is challenging due to the lack of a specific medium and the abundance of overgrown respiratory flora. This study aimed to compare the amoeba plate test (APT), an amoebic coculture with , with the axenic culture to recover from pulmonary samples. serial dilutions ( = 15 strains from seven species, concentrations ranging: 10-10 CFU/mL) in water and spiked overgrown sputa ( = 8) were simultaneously plated on agar with amoebic monolayer (APT) and without (control).

Cyclosporine: Immunosuppressive effects, entwined toxicity, and clinical modulations of an organ transplant drug.

Transpl Immunol

November 2024

Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, Qassim University, Qassim 51452, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

The discovery and use of cyclosporine since its inception into the clinics in the '70s and up have played a crucial role in advancing transplant therapy, and containment of the immune-based rejections. The drug has improved the high rates of acute rejections and has supported early graft survival. However, the long-term survival of renal allografts is still less prevalent, and an in-depth analysis, as well as reported findings led us to believe that there is a chronic irreversible component to the drug, that is tackled through its metabolites, and that causes toxicity, which has led to new therapies, including monoclonal antibody-based medications.

Introduction: Lifestyle influences microbiota composition. We previously reported a healthier microbiota composition in saliva from active schoolchildren compared to sedentary. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of 6 months of different exercise types on physical fitness and saliva microbiota composition in 8-11-years-old sedentary schoolchildren.
