Examining the humanness attributed to several groups in a comprehensive Hungarian sample ( = 505) at the height of the "European refugee crisis of 2015," we found that Hungarians dehumanize Eastern ethnic groups more and Western ethnic groups less than they do to their own ethnic ingroup. Interestingly, we also found that a general tendency of dehumanization is expressed across all national groups. This general tendency of dehumanization was strongly associated with threat perceived from migrants, but the relationship was mediated by group malleability-the belief that human groups can change and are not set in their ways irreversibly. Malleability beliefs were negatively linked to dehumanization tendencies and threat perceived from migrants. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of the findings that point to the critical role of fixed mindsets about groups in the mechanisms linked to prejudice in a highly xenophobic Hungarian context.

Primal world beliefs ("primals") capture individuals' basic understanding of what sort of world this is. How do children develop beliefs about the nature of the world? Is the world a good place? Safe or dangerous? Enticing or dull? Primals were initially introduced in social and personality psychology to understand beliefs about the world as a whole that may influence well-being and personality. This article introduces the concept of primals to developmental scientists and reviews preliminary research examining how primals relate to sociodemographic and well-being indicators.

The goals that people have for their emotions are crucial for whether emotion regulation is pursued, as well as the regulation strategies people select. Information intervention has been verified to be effective in influencing individual behavior. Thus, can information intervention reverse the common discrepancy of high intention but poor action among the public about participating in environmental management? Clarifying the issue is critical to facilitating the public payment scheme for agricultural plastic waste management (APWM) to evolve from idea to reality, as well as harnessing potential contributions from the public to promote the sustainability of APWM. In light of these inquiries, the study seeks to reinforce the public's payment for APWM by employing an information strategy based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and to verify the effect of information intervention on the respondents' willingness to pay (WTP) by a randomized controlled trial (RCT).

Despite overwhelming scientific consensus on the existence of human-caused climate change, public opinion among Americans remains split. Directly informing people of scientific consensus is among the most prominent strategies for climate communication, yet the reasons for its effectiveness and its limitations are not fully understood. Here, we propose that consensus messaging provides information not only about the existence of climate change but also traits of climate scientists themselves.

In adults, biological causes are commonly associated with immutability. However, it remains unclear when during their development children coherently connect these ideas in relation to reasoning about physical and mental traits and whether children reason differently by domain. Understanding this is relevant to illuminating children's conceptions about the body versus the mind.
