Novel derivatives based on 6-methyluracil and condensed uracil, 2,4-quinazoline-2,4-dione, were synthesized with terminal - and -benzoate moieties in polymethylene chains at the N atoms of the pyrimidine ring. In the synthesized compounds, the polymethylene chains were varied from having tris- to hexamethylene chains and quaternary ammonium groups; varying substituents (ester, salt, acid) at benzene ring were introduced into the chains and benzoate moieties. In vivo biological experiments demonstrated the potency of these compounds in decreasing the number of β-amyloid plaques and their suitability for the treatment of memory impairment in a transgenic model of Alzheimer's disease.

Plasma tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-tau181) and 217 (p-tau217) have demonstrated high accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, defined by CSF/PET amyloid beta (Aβ) positivity, but most studies have been performed in research cohorts, limiting their generalizability. We studied plasma p-tau217 and p-tau181 for CSF Aβ status discrimination in a cohort of consecutive patients attending an academic memory clinic in Spain (July 2019-June 2024). All patients had CSF AD biomarkers performed as part of their routine clinical assessment.

The astroglial glutamate transporter in the hippocampus and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is critically involved in chronic pain-induced cognitive and psychiatric abnormalities. We have previously reported that LDN-212320, a glutamate transporter-1 (GLT-1) activator, attenuates complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced acute and chronic nociceptive pain. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying GLT-1 modulation in the hippocampus and ACC during chronic pain-induced cognitive deficit-like and anxiety-like behaviors remain unknown.

Doxorubicin (DOX)-induced chemobrain has been reported in several studies. Its main culprit is the induction of massive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS), hence triggering damage to brain tissues and thus leading to neuroinflammation. Biochanin A (BIO-A) is known to be an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective agent.

People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) carry a considerable risk of developing dementia. Studies have shown that female sex hormones have long-lasting neuroprotective and anti-aging properties, and the increased risk of MCI and AD is associated with the lack of estrogen during menopause. Previous studies have shown that Tiao Geng Decoction (TGD) may have antioxidant and anti apoptotic properties, which may prevent neurodegenerative diseases.

HIV and the consequences of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) disproportionally affect South African women. Longitudinal neurocognitive data on women with HIV are limited. We tracked longitudinal neurocognitive profiles of South African women with HIV (baseline = 140) compared to women without HIV (baseline = 156).
