The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between idiopathic asymmetry in infants and body posture in children at an early school age. The study included 45 girls aged nine. The Diers Formetric III 4D device was used to assess body posture, which allows photogrammetric registration of the back surface using the raster stereography process. For the purposes of the re-search project, the examination was performed via DiCAM using the "Average measurement" mode. Despite physiotherapy, these children had more postural defects later on compared to the control group due to asymmetry. They mainly concerned pelvic skewness, scoliosis angle, deviation from the vertical line and lateral deviation, as well as surface rotation. Positive correlations were observed between direction of asymmetry and pelvic skewness (r = 0.40), and between the location of asymmetry and the location of curvature (r = 0.39). Significant negative correlations were also found between the age of treatment initiation and trunk length (r = -0.42). There was also a negative correlation between the number of physiotherapeutic appointments and deviation from the vertical line, which means that along with an increase in the number of physiotherapeutic visits, the value of deviation from the vertical line decreased ( = -0.40). For scoliosis angle, the most important predictor was the direction of asymmetry ( = 0.05). For the location of the curvature, the most important predictor was the direction of asymmetry ( = 0.04), as well as the number of physiotherapeutic appointments ( = 0.04). Additionally, regression analysis allowed us to show that the number of physiotherapeutic visits ( = 0.03) was the most important predictor of curvature direction. The applied physiotherapy probably contributed to the occurrence of a smaller number of postural defects in these children at a later age. Physiotherapy as a specific and targeted form of physical activity among infants with idiopathic asymmetry should play a very important role in the prevention of body posture defects.

Purpose Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) affects 3% of adolescents. Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) are recommended to limit AIS progression, especially within intensive multidisciplinary programs. Our study evaluated the efficiency of these programs in AIS cases with a high progression risk.

Background: Chronic pain poses a multifaceted and prevalent challenge that significantly affects an individual's quality of life. Sensory mechanisms, behavioural components (kinesiophobia and catastrophising), and social factors can influence pain perception in both younger and older populations. Moreover, the mechanisms underlying these altered pain phenotypes require further investigation in order to plan appropriate treatment.

  • Chikungunya Fever is caused by mosquitoes and can lead to neurological issues like transverse myelitis.
  • A case study involved a 29-year-old patient who underwent physical therapy to improve pain, mobility, and lower limb strength following a Chikungunya infection.
  • After 20 therapy sessions, significant improvements were observed in pain levels and functional mobility, indicating the effectiveness of the multimodal physical therapy approach.

The efficacy of combined physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises and manual therapy in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a condition causing abnormal spinal curvature and deformities, and the effectiveness of conservative treatments like physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE) combined with manual therapy (MT) is under investigation.
  • In a study with 31 AIS patients, the intervention group received combined PSSE and MT, leading to significant reductions in the Cobb angle and improvements in spinal mobility, movement capability, and quality of life compared to the control group, which only received PSSE.
  • The results suggest that combining PSSE with MT may effectively alleviate AIS symptoms and enhance quality of life, indicating the need for further research to confirm these findings.

Article Synopsis
  • Prehabilitation is underutilized in cardiac surgery centers, but the Pre Surgery Check Team study aimed to assess its impact on postoperative pulmonary complications.
  • A study involving 725 adult patients showed that a comprehensive prehabilitation program significantly reduced postoperative complications, including pneumonia and surgical site infections.
  • The findings suggest that prehabilitation can effectively lower the risk of complications after elective cardiac surgery by providing patients with essential preoperative support and assessments.
