Objective: The role of hyperuricaemia as a prognostic maker has been established in chronic heart failure (HF) but limited information on the association between plasma uric acid (UA) levels and central haemodynamic measurements is available.

Methods: A retrospective study on patients with advanced HF referred for right heart catherisation. Regression analyses were constructed to investigate the association between UA and haemodynamic variables. Cox models were created to investigate if UA was a significant predictor of adverse outcome where log1.1(UA) was used to estimate the effect on outcome associated with a 10% increase in UA levels.

Results: A total of 228 patients were included (77% males, age 49±12 years, mean left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 17%±8%). Median UA was 0.48 (0.39-0.61) mmol/L. UA level was associated to pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) and cardiac index (CI) in univariable (both p<0.001) and multivariable regression analysis (p<0.004 and p=0.025 for PCWP and CI). When constructing multivariable Cox models including PCWP, CI, central venous pressure, age, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), use of loop diuretics and LVEF, log1.1(UA) independently predicted the combined endpoint (left ventricular assist device, total artificial heart implantation, heart transplantation or all-cause mortality) (hazard ratio (HR): 1.10 (1.03-1.17), p=0.004) as well as all-cause mortality (HR: 1.15 (1.06-1.25), p=0.001).

Conclusions: Elevated UA is associated with greater haemodynamic impairment in advanced HF. In adjusted Cox models (age, eGFR, LVEF and haemodynamics), UA predicts the combined endpoint and all-cause mortality in long-term follow-up.

Background: Few studies have incorporated echocardiography and laboratory data to predict clinical outcomes in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Objectives: This study aimed to use machine learning to find predictors of heart failure (HF) hospitalization and cardiovascular (CV) death in HFpEF.

Methods: From the Chang Gung Research Database in Taiwan, 6,092 HFpEF patients (2,898 derivation, 3,194 validation) identified between 2008 and 2017 were followed until 2019.

Department of Medical Genetic, Ganzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Ganzhou, Jiangxi, 341000, People's Republic of China.

Background: Few studies have evaluated the correlation between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and the prevalence of female infertility in the general population, and the effect of magnesium intake on this correlation has not been investigated.

Methods: All participants aged 18-45 years at baseline were enrolled from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2013-2018. The continuous variable of SUA was divided into quartile (Q1: ≤3.

The optimal strategy for improving cardiometabolic factors (CMFs) in young obese individuals through diet and exercise remains unclear, as do the potential mechanisms. We conducted an 8-week randomized controlled trial to compare the effects of different interventions in youth with overweight/obesity. Gut microbes and serum metabolites were examined to identify regulating mechanisms.

Background: Limited studies have suggested an effect of dietary choline intake on uric acid levels. We aim to investigate the associations between choline intake and hyperuricemia (HUA), as well as the mediating role of kidney function in this relationship, among the Chinese population aged 6-17 years.

Methods: Participants were divided into quartiles according to residual energy-adjusted dietary choline intake in our cross-sectional study.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is characterized by an uncomfortable urge to move the legs, worsened in the evening, occurring at rest, and relieved temporarily by movement. Although its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, oxidative stress has been suggested. Uric acid (UA) is a marker associated with oxidative stress, and its reduced levels pose a risk for certain neurodegenerative diseases.
