Background: Obesity and ageing individually pose significant challenges to global public health, leading to preventable deaths. With an increasing geriatric population due to improved medical interventions, the intersection of these health issues becomes a critical concern worldwide. Both developed and developing countries grapple with the consequences of obesity, a major risk factor for various conditions like cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and neuropsychiatric diseases.

Emerging evidence indicates that subtle alterations in language and speech characteristics may manifest concurrently with the progression of neurodegenerative disorders like AD. These changes manifest as discernible variations, assessable through semantic nuances, word choices, sentiment, grammar usage (linguistic features), and phonetic/acoustic traits (paralinguistic features).

Background: Hearing loss is highly prevalent and can have significant consequences for older adults aging with cognitive impairment. However, few older adults use hearing aids and disparities in care exist by race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic position. To understand the intersection of hearing loss and cognitive impairment with the ultimate goal of developing an affordable, accessible hearing care intervention responsive to the needs of end-users, a series of semi-structured interviews was conducted.

Background: Previous literature has highlighted that excessive alcohol use (EAU) is directly linked with permanent neurological damage. Studies have also highlighted gradual improvements in heart rate variability (HRV) after cessation of alcohol use. Moreover, chronic alcohol consumption has also been correlated with reduced HRV and an increase in skin conductance (SC) among healthy adults, leading to a combined decline in cognitive performance.

Sepsis is characterised by dysregulated immune responses to infection, leading to multi-organ dysfunction and high rates of mortality. With increasing survival rates in recent years long-term neurological and psychiatric consequences have become more apparent in survivors. Many patients develop sepsis associated encephalopathy (SAE) which encompasses the profound but usually transient neuropsychiatric syndrome delirium but also new brain injury that emerges in the months and years post-sepsis.
