Despite the widely recognized importance of ginseng carbohydrates, their structural analysis is still challenging due to structural complexity. This study presents the first ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS) combined with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone (PMP) labeling and multivariate data analysis for profiling carbohydrates in the seven ginseng products. 11 carbohydrates were tentatively annotated, including 5 first found in ginseng, and three of them were solely detected in black ginseng (BG) samples, speculated as monosaccharides bearing various groups based on MS analysis. Furthermore, 3D profiles of carbohydrates in IM-MS of the samples showed good discrimination between the varieties of ginseng which were classified into two groups utilizing carbohydrate contents by PLS-DA. The big difference between BG and the others may be ascribed to the repeated heating and steaming process for preparation of BG products. Our findings may provide insights into the differences in bioactivity of different ginseng varieties for future research and show a valuable methodology for discovering unknown carbohydrates.

In this study, we investigated the anti-fatigue effects of black ginseng ginsenosides using exercise performance tests, serum analyses, and gene expression profiling. No significant differences in dietary intake or body weight were observed between groups. The low-dose black ginseng (LBG) group showed no significant improvements in swimming and rotating rod tests.

Aim Of The Study: To study the changes in the chemical composition and medicinal effects of black ginseng during processing.

Materials And Methods: The contents of ginsenosides Rg1, Re, Rh1, Rb1, 20-(S)-Rg3, 20-(R)-Rg3, and Rg5 were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and the percentage of rare saponins was calculated. Furthermore, changes in the contents of reducing sugars and amino acids (i.

Protective effects of black ginseng on testicular toxicity induced by Di--butyl phthalate in rats.

Di--butyl phthalate (DBP) is a phthalate-based material used as a plasticizer to soften polyvinyl chloride, and classified as an endocrine disruptor with antiandrogen effects. Exposure to DBP induces oxidative stress in rat testes, resulting in testicular toxicity. Black ginseng (BG) exhibits a higher antioxidant activity than white or red ginseng following repeated heat treatment and processing.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how the combination of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) affects ginseng growth and the accumulation of important nutrients and secondary metabolites like ginsenosides.
  • - Co-inoculation of AMF and PSB boosts growth by increasing biomass, nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) levels in ginseng, while also improving the overall balance of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus (C:N:P) in the plant.
  • - The research indicates that this co-inoculation not only enhances nutrient absorption and modifies ginsenoside compositional profiles but also fosters a unique set of microorganisms in the rhizosphere, distinguishing it from single
