Tomato is one of the major vegetable crops grown worldwide and a model species for genetic and biological research. Progress in genomic technologies made possible the development of forefront methods for high-scale sequencing, providing comprehensive insight into the genetic architecture of germplasm resources. This review revisits next-generation sequencing strategies and applications to investigate the diversity of tomato, describing the common platforms used for SNP genotyping of large collections, sequencing, and whole genome resequencing. Significant findings in evolutionary history are outlined, thus discussing how genomics has provided new hints about the processes behind domestication. Finally, achievement and perspectives on pan-genome construction and graphical pan-genome development toward precise mining of the natural variation to be exploited for breeding purposes are presented.

The effects of drought stress on stomatal opening dynamics, plant volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and plant-insect interactions have been well-documented individually, but how they interact mechanistically remains poorly studied. Here, we studied how drought-triggered stomatal closure affects VOC emission and plant-trophic interactions by combining RNAi silencing, molecular biological and chemical analyses (GC-MS) of a potato-tuber moth-egg parasitoid tritrophic system. Drought stress attenuated stomatal apertures and VOC emissions, which made the potato (Solanum tuberosum L.

Several quantitative trait genes (QTGs) related to rice heading date, a key factor for crop development and yield, have been identified, along with complex interactions among genes. However, a comprehensive genetic interaction network for these QTGs has not yet been established. In this study, we use 18K-rice lines to identify QTGs and their epistatic interactions affecting rice heading date.

The growth curve is a vital instrument for assessing and forecasting weight and developmental shifts in livestock and poultry, which reflects the changes of bodyweight traits with time and plays a key role in guiding breeding and production approaches. This study performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for growth curve parameters generated by nonlinear models which fit original weight-age records, to discover the SNPs and candidate genes correlated with growth traits. Data from 362 Chinese Wenshang Barred Chickens weighed at the age of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 weeks were used to fit the Gompertz, Logistic, and von Bertalanffy growth models.

Background: Zanthoxylum L., an important genus in the Rutaceae family, has great edible and medical values. However, the high degree of morphological similarity among species and the lack of sufficient chloroplast (cp) genomic resources have greatly impeded germplasm identification and phylogenetic analyses of
Methods: Here we assembled cp genomes of five widespread species (, , , and ) in China as a case study, comparative analysis of these assembled cp genomes.
