Healthcare workers are under increasing pressure to use limited resources more efficiently and improve patient outcomes. Healthcare redesign, a quality improvement methodology derived from the automotive industry, is a proven means of achieving these goals. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for nurses seeking to build their capacity for healthcare redesign often come in the form of university courses, which can be costly and prohibitively time-consuming. We developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) with a view to increasing the number of healthcare workers undertaking CPD in healthcare redesign and subsequently using these principles in their workplaces. The aim of the current study is to describe the development of our MOOC and its initial feedback from users. The theoretical and practical components of an existing postgraduate award course unit were made fit for purpose by being arranged into six weekly modules, before being transposed to an established learning management platform for MOOCs. Related quizzes, videos and interactive activities were then developed and included in each of these modules. Peer review of this content was completed by subject matter and teaching and learning experts prior to the MOOC being launched. After running for nine months, 578 participants had enrolled in the MOOC, of whom 118 (20%) had followed through to completion. Participants were overwhelmingly from Australia (89%) and identified as female (78%). Preliminary feedback obtained from participants was positive, with 81% of respondents agreeing that they were satisfied with their experience, and 82% intending to apply their knowledge in practice. The MOOC has addressed a learning need by providing a brief and free form of education; learning from its development will help others seeking similar educational solutions. Initial feedback suggests the MOOC has been well-received and is likely to be translated into practice.

Nurse practitioner (NP) programs have a long history of producing safe and competent NPs; however, bold, transformative leadership is needed to set a minimum standard for quality NP education to support a 21st-century healthcare system. This paper is a call to action for leaders in NP education to transition NP education to the DNP degree utilizing the 2022 National Task Force Standards for Quality NP Education and a competency-based approach as defined in the 2021 AACN Essentials. There is now an opportunity to redesign healthcare systems with quality and equity as a primary consideration and DNP-prepared NPs are positioned to lead this redesign.

Background: Significant differences in outcomes for mothers and babies following obstetric surgical interventions between low- and middle-income countries and high-income settings have demonstrated a need for improvements in quality of care and training of obstetric surgical and anaesthetic providers. To address this, a five-day face-to-face training intervention was developed. When roll-out was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the course was redesigned for delivery by blended learning.

Purpose: Diversion or theft of controlled substances is a recognized problem affecting healthcare systems globally. The purpose of this study was to develop a framework for identifying and characterizing system factors leading to vulnerabilities for diversion within hospitals.
Methods: We applied a qualitative framework method, which involved 1) compiling a list of critical diversion vulnerabilities through observations and proactive risk analyses in the inpatient pharmacy, emergency department and intensive care unit of two Canadian hospitals; 2) coding the vulnerabilities into deductively and inductively derived themes and subthemes; and 3) building a conceptual framework.

In the past decade, China has made laudable progress in access to ESKD care with narrowed difference between the number of patients needing and receiving kidney replacement therapies (KRT). China has also experienced significant improvements in clinical quality and outcomes of ESKD care.
