The present study investigated the effects of intracerebral human-derived hair follicle stem cells (HFBSCs), whether alone or in combination with hydrogen sulfide (HS) in a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia. The rats were randomly assigned into 4 groups (n = 10): Control (phosphate buffered saline (PBS)), Group A (at 24 h post-middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAo), stereotaxic intracerebral, 1,0 × 10, total 10 μL HFBSCs), Group B (3-14 d post-MCAo, intraperitoneal (i.p.), 25 μM/kg/day HS), Group AB (HFBSCs + HS). Cranial magnetic resonance images were recorded on postoperative 1st and 28th days. Three dimensional analysis was performed to calculate the infarct volumes. Rotarod and cylinder tests were performed after MCAo and finally all rats were euthanized by cardiac perfusion at 28 days after MCAo for immunohistochemical analysis. The reduction in infarct volumes of rats receiving HFBSC was significant. The cranial infarct volume on the postoperative 28th day was significantly higher in the group in which HS was administered alone compared to the HFBSC alone group. All animals showed steadily improved spontaneous locomotor activity from day 7 post-MCAo on rotarod test, from day 1 on cylinder test, but showed no significant differences at all times. In all groups, the grading scores of CD34, CD5, CD11b and GFAP immunohistochemical markers did not differ significantly. In conclusion, intracerebral HFBSC treatment after 24 h of ischemic stroke may be an effective way to reduce the cranial infarct volume, whereas HS treatment alone or in combination with HFBSC may not be sufficient for ischemic brain injury.

An autologous heterogeneous skin construct (AHSC) has been developed and used clinically as an alternative to traditional skin grafting techniques for treatment of cutaneous defects. AHSC is manufactured from a small piece of healthy skin in a manner that preserves endogenous regenerative cellular populations. To date however, specific cellular and non-cellular contributions of AHSC to the epidermal and dermal layers of closed wounds have not been well characterized given limited clinical opportunity for graft biopsy following wound closure.

With the prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) from the usage of skin-contact products, like wearable, skin care, and hair care products, screening their skin sensitizing potential is necessary, for the sake of alleviating the consequent public health impact. In the present study, a total of 77 skin-contact products classified by four categories, watch bands (WBs), skin care products (SCPs), hair care products (HCPs), and rubber gloves (RGs), were investigated, using an optimized assay of human cell line activation test (h-CLAT). Extracting the products using neutral artificial sweat simulated well the practical usage scenarios, and testing the extracts showed that 26 of them were allergy test positive, including nine WBs, six SCPs, two HCPs, and nine RGs.

Craniomaxillofacial (CMF) reconstruction is a challenging clinical dilemma. It often necessitates skin replacement in the form of autologous graft or flap surgery, which differ from one another based on hypodermal/dermal content. Unfortunately, both approaches are plagued by scarring, poor cosmesis, inadequate restoration of native anatomy and hair, alopecia, donor site morbidity, and potential for failure.

The determination of human-derived samples is very important in forensic investigations and case investigation in order to determine vital information on the suspect and the case. In this study, we established a recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) assay for rapid identification of human-derived components. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.
