Transition metal complexes with a doubly deprotonated diazomethane (CNN) ligand have been proposed as fleeting intermediates in nitrogen transfer reactions. However, in contrast to isoelectronic azide (N), well-defined examples are unknown. We here report the synthesis and characterization of isolable complexes with terminal and bridging CNN ligands, stabilized by platinum(II) pincer fragments. Bonding within the allenic dimetallanitrilimine core (Pt-N═N═C-Pt) was probed by oxidation of the bridging ligand. Enhanced reactivity toward [3 + 2]-cycloaddition with CO was obtained. Photofragmentation favors N-NC over NN-C bond cleavage as a route to cyanide and a transient metallonitrene complex.

Photoelectron imaging of the doubly deprotonated ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dianion (EDTA) at variable wavelengths indicates two electron loss pathways: direct detachment and thermionic emission from monoanions. The structure of EDTA is also investigated by electronic structure calculations, which indicate that EDTA has two intramolecular hydrogen bonds linking a carboxylate and carboxylic acid group at either end of the molecular backbone. The direct detachment feature in the photoelectron spectrum is very broad and provides evidence for a dissociative photodetachment, where decarboxylation occurs rapidly after electron loss.

The radiative forcing caused by atmospheric aerosol represents one of the largest uncertainties in climate models. In part, these uncertainties derive from poor characterizations of the optical properties of light-absorbing brown carbon (BrC) containing aerosols. Here, single particle cavity ring-down spectroscopy (SP-CRDS) is used to determine the complex refractive index at the optical wavelength of 405 nm for aqueous particles composed of an abundant BrC species, 4-nitrocatechol.

causes high morbidity and mortality in nosocomial infections, and newly approved antibiotics have been declining for decades. A green and universal deprotonation-driven strategy is used to screen the guanylic acid-metal ion coordination polymer nanoparticles (GMC), instead of the failure of binding occurs when specific metal ion participation. We find that the precise pH-dependent oxidase-like activity of GMC-2 orchestrates a duple symphony of immune modulation for biofilm infections.

In the title complex, [U(CHNO)O(CHOH)] , the U cation has a typical penta-gonal-bipyramidal environment with the equatorial plane defined by one N and two O atoms of one doubly deprotonated 2-[5-(2-hy-droxy-phen-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]acetic acid ligand, a carboxyl-ate O atom of the symmetry-related ligand and the O atom of the methanol mol-ecule [U-N/O 2.256 (4)-2.504 (5) Å].
