Background: Polycythemia vera (PV), often attributed to the JAK2 V617F mutation, is characterized by enhanced red blood cell counts in the peripheral blood. PV-associated renal disease is clinically rare; to date, there have been reports of other chronic kidney diseases related to PV, but no reports on PV-associated minimal change disease.
Case Summary: A 37-year-old man presented with proteinuria and high red blood cell count on January 4, 2021. The patient underwent bone marrow and renal biopsies, then was subsequently diagnosed with PV and minimal change in disease. Hydroxyurea was administered and proteinuria remission was achieved. The patient's last visit was on April 14, 2022.
Conclusion: We inferred that there may be a causal relationship between PV and minimal change disease.

This study explores the formulation and characterization of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-based composite hydrogels synthesized through solid-state crosslinking. Comprehensive assessments were conducted on their physicochemical properties, leachables, and immunogenicity. Swelling experiments demonstrated that the incorporation of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) enhanced water retention, while chitosan had a minimal effect on swelling behavior.

Background: diagnosis of early chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a challenge due to the lack of accurate methods. The ability of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided biopsy to obtain pancreatic core tissue samples in patients with minimal changes of CP and its potential use for the histological diagnosis of early CP are unknown. The aim of the study was to evaluate the ability of different EUS-guided biopsy core needles to obtain histological samples of healthy pig pancreas.

In this paper, we present the design, RF-EMF performance, and a comprehensive uncertainty analysis of the reverberation chamber (RC) exposure systems that have been developed for the use of researchers at the University of Wollongong Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory, Australia, for the purpose of investigating the biological effects of RF-EMF in rodents. Initial studies, at 1950 MHz, have focused on investigating thermophysiological effects of RF exposure, and replication studies related to RF-EMF exposure and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in mice predisposed to AD. The RC exposure system was chosen as it allows relatively unconstrained movement of animals during exposures which can have the beneficial effect of minimizing stress-related, non-RF-induced biological and behavioral changes in the animals.

This article highlights some advances in visceral surgery in 2024. In the hepato-pancreato-biliary field, liquid biopsies, immunotherapy, and robotics have revolutionized diagnosis and treatment, while artificial intelligence could enhance planning and operational safety. In endocrine surgery, a more conservative approach is recommended for well-differentiated thyroid cancers.

Density functional theory has been employed to study indolo[3,2,1-]carbazole donor-based dyes, incorporating one and two units of 2,4-dimethoxybenzene auxiliary donors. Electrostatic potential analysis highlights the dye with one auxiliary donor (D2) as having the highest charge-donating capability. Structural analysis shows that auxiliary donors enhance planarity, reduce steric hindrance, and improve π-conjugation.
