In this paper, novel zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) functionalized with Ag (Ag@ZIF-8) nanoparticles were synthesized through a green, facile and environmental-friendly process for wound dressing applications. X-ray diffraction revealed that the ZIF-8 and Ag@ZIF-8 were successfully synthesized by green solvents at ambient temperature. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy indicated a homogeneous porous blend of ∼30 nm chitosan/bacterial cellulose (CS/BC) nanofibers embedded with ∼80-110 nm nanoparticles of the ZIF-8 and Ag@ZIF-8. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the Ag@ZIF-8 nanostructures consist of ZIF-8 cores that are covered by 5-20 nm Ag nanoparticles. MTT assay indicated excellent cell viability values of ∼115 and 109% for the CS/BC nanocomposites reinforced by ZIF-8 and Ag@ZIF-8 nanoparticles, respectively. The Ag-containing wound dressings showed 52-300% of effective antibacterial activities. Animal studies demonstrated excellent healing for the wound treated by CS/BC-25%Ag@ZIF-8 nanocomposite with ∼91% of wound closure after 14 days of treatment. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining revealed successful healing and tissue regeneration for the wounds treated using the CS/BC-Ag@ZIF-8 nanocomposites. This kind of nanocomposites with synergistic antimicrobial and bioactivity properties can be a promising candidate for regenerative medicine.

Rapid and sensitive detection of phosphate is of great significance for ensuring water safety and preventing eutrophication. In this study, we prepared Au@PATP@Ag NRs core-shell structures using 4-aminothiophenol (PATP) as an internal standard signal molecule to enhance the stability of the SERS signal. Based on the protective effect of ZIF-8 on the internal Au@PATP@Ag NRs and the phosphate-induced decomposition of ZIF-8, a phosphate SERS sensor (Au@PATP@Ag@ZIF-8) with high sensitivity, selectivity and stability was designed.

Herein, ZIF-8 shell encapsulated Ag nanoparticles decorated cotton swab (CS@Ag@ZIF-8) was firstly designed and prepared for highly rapid and selective surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) analysis of glucose and lactic acid in human sweat. The CS not only act as support matrix for Ag modification and ZIF-8 encapsulation, but also provide great potential in-situ analysis of human sweat with low cost. The as-developed CS@Ag@ZIF-8 shows high SERS activity owing the good adsorption of ZIF-8 shell and electromagnetic enhancement of AgNPs.

This study introduces a novel type of metal-organic framework material, specifically zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), that is integrated with silver nanoparticles and further enhanced by incorporating vancomycin (Van) to create a composite named as Van/Ag/ZIF-8. This composite demonstrates a potent and smart antimicrobial effect due to its ability for releasing silver ions and Van in a controlled manner, especially in the microacidic conditions surrounding bacterial cells. Furthermore, we used hyaluronic acid to modify Van/Ag/ZIF-8, resulting in a composite denoted as Van/Ag/ZIF-8@HA.

Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has been extensively utilized in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) due to its rapid detection speed, high sensitivity and straightforward sample pretreatment. In this study, Au/AgNPs were obtained through the reduction of AgNO on the surface of AuNPs. Subsequently, Au/AgNPs were embedded into the tetrahedral lattice of ZIF-8 MOFs, resulting in the formation of Au/Ag@ZIF-8 nanocomposites.
