Published: February 2023

Radiology-pathology correlation is essential for multidisciplinary collaboration in diagnosis and understanding the mechanism of CNS damage in infectious processes. The microscopic acute inflammatory processes are well established and are supplemented by a variety of less-invasive microbial and immunohistochemical investigations. Understanding the pathogenesis of pathogen spread and neuroinvasion, vascular and immune-mediated brain, and spinal cord damage are essential for interpreting radiological images.

Substructure-Specific Antibodies Against Fentanyl Derivatives.

ACS Nano

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Georgia Institute of Technology, 901 Atlantic Dr., Atlanta, Georgia 30332, United States.

Structural variants of the synthetic opioid fentanyl are a major threat to public health. Following an investigation showing that many derivatives are poorly detected by commercial lateral flow and related assays, we created hapten conjugate vaccines using an immunogenic virus-like particle carrier and eight synthetic fentanyl derivatives designed to mimic the structural features of several of the more dangerous analogues. Immunization of mice elicited strong antihapten humoral responses, allowing the screening of hundreds of hapten-specific hybridomas for binding strength and specificity.

The development of noninvasive methods for bladder cancer identification remains a critical clinical need. Recent studies have shown that atomic force microscopy (AFM), combined with pattern recognition machine learning, can detect bladder cancer by analyzing cells extracted from urine. However, these promising findings were limited by a relatively small patient cohort, resulting in modest statistical significance.

Gallbladder volvulus is a rare but potentially severe condition that requires urgent surgical intervention. This report presents two contrasting cases of gallbladder volvulus with distinct pathogenic mechanisms and degrees of torsion. The first case involves a 97-year-old female who presented with acute symptoms and 270° torsion, leading to complete gallbladder necrosis (Gross type II).

December 2024

Emergency Department, Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale - Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, Lugano, Switzerland.

Unlabelled: Kounis syndrome (KS), characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and allergic reactions, can be triggered by a range of factors and drugs. We report on the case of a patient who arrived at our emergency department (ED) with symptoms of an allergic reaction after taking moxifloxacin and deflazacort orally. In the ED, the patient experienced a 5-minute episode of oppressive chest pain.

The integration of radar technology into smart furniture represents a practical approach to health monitoring, circumventing the concerns regarding user convenience and privacy often encountered by conventional smart home systems. Radar technology's inherent non-contact methodology, privacy-preserving features, adaptability to diverse environmental conditions, and high precision characteristics collectively establish it a compelling alternative for comprehensive health monitoring within domestic environments. In this paper, we introduce a millimeter (mm)-wave radar system positioned strategically behind a seat, featuring an algorithm capable of identifying unique cardiac waveform patterns for healthy subjects.
