Chemical fractionation of the EtOH extract of the roots of a traditional Chinese herb, Morinda officinalis, afforded an array of methyl 2-naphthoate derivatives (1-9) including four pairs of enantiomers (1-4), two pimarane diterpenes and two ursane triterpenoids. Among them, eight compounds (1a/1b-3a/3b, 11 and 13) were reported in the current work for the first time. The structures of the new compounds, including their absolute configurations, were defined by spectroscopic analyses in combination with quantum chemical electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and gauge-independent atomic orbital (GIAO) NMR calculations. All the isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO) production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in murine RAW264.7 macrophage cells, and the enantiomers 1a and 3b exhibited moderate activity with IC values of 41.9 and 26.2 μM. Meanwhile, compound 3b also dose-dependently inhibited the secretion of two pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 in the same cell model.

Background: Morinda officinalis iridoid glycosides (MOIG) showed potential benefits in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but their exact mechanism has yet to be explored.
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of MOIG on RA, and explore the potential targets and molecular mechanism of MOIG in RA.
Methods: The collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats were used to evaluate the effects of MOIG on RA.

Objectives: To investigate the role of Morinda officinalis polysaccharide (MOP) in the protein expression of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling cascade during the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and to elucidate the mechanisms by which MOP enhances osteogenic differentiation at the cellular level.
Methods: BMSCs were isolated and cultured using the whole bone marrow adherence method, followed by flow cytometry for the detection of BMSC marker antigens. Two groups were prepared: a low-dose MOP (L-MOP, 10 µg/mL) group and a high-dose MOP (H-MOP, 40 µg/mL) group.

There are great challenges in the field of natural product isolation and purification and in the pharmacological study of oligosaccharide monomers. And these isolation and purification processes are still universal problems in the study of natural products (NPs), traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), omics, etc. The same polymer-modified materials designed for the special separation of oligosaccharides, named Sil-epoxy-PEI and Sil-chloropropyl-PEI, were synthesized via two different methods and characterized by scanning electron microscopy combined with energy spectrum analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, zeta potential as well as surface area analysis, etc.
