Cognitive function in healthy aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD) correlates to olfactory performance. Aging and disease progression both show marked olfactory deficits in humans and rodents. As a clear understanding of what causes olfactory deficits is still missing, research on this topic is paramount to diagnostics and early intervention therapy.

This article provides a high-level overview of US regulatory review and approval processes for the growing field of medical combination products (CPs; those merging drugs with devices and/or biological products). US law defines drugs, medical devices, and CPs in specific ways, and the components of a CP are still subject to their respective regulations while combined. The Food and Drug Administration's Office of Combination Products (OCP) oversees the review and classification of CPs, which is based on their primary mode of action.

Dysphagia is a frequent and life-threatening complication of multiple sclerosis (MS). Swallowing disturbances may be present at all stages of MS, although their prevalence increases with age, with disease duration, and in progressive phenotypes. The pathophysiology of dysphagia in MS is likely due to a combination of factors, including the involvement of corticobulbar tracts, the cerebellum, and the brainstem.
