Herein, a highly sensitive volatile organic compound (VOC) gas sensor is demonstrated using immobilized ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, onto surfaces functionalized by the quaternary ammonium group -NR, -COOH, and -NH, , N-IL, COOH-IL, and NH-IL, respectively. These functional groups ensure highly tunable interactions between the IL and surfaces, efficiently modulating the electrical resistance of the immobilized IL upon exposure to acetone and toluene. The immobilized IL to both acetone and toluene displays significant electronic resistance changes at a concentration of 150 ppm, falling in the order NH-IL > N-IL > COOH-IL for acetone while COOH-IL > NH-IL > N-IL for toluene. A better gaseous sensing ability is achieved in COOH-IL for toluene than acetone, while this does not hold in the case of NH-IL and N-IL surfaces because of the completely different ion structuring of the IL at these functionalized surfaces. The accelerated ion mobility in the IL that is immobilized onto functionalized surfaces is also responsible for the strong gaseous sensing response, which is demonstrated further by the atomic force microscopy-measured smaller friction coefficient. This is highly encouraging and suggests that ILs can be immobilized by a network formed by surface functionalization to easily and cheaply detect VOCs at ppm concentrations.

KOBu-promoted [3 + 2] cycloaddition of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with fullerenes has been developed for facile and efficient one-pot synthesis of 1,2,3,4-cyclic sulfoxide-fused [60]/[70]fullerene dihydrides, which offers a versatile platform for the site-selective preparation of various fullerene multiadducts with a wide range of functional groups. The utility of these tetra-functionalized fullerenes is demonstrated by the successful application as electron-transport materials in perovskite solar cells.

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have emerged as promising materials for electrochemiluminescence (ECL) applications due to their unique optical and electronic properties. In this study, GQDs were synthesized via electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in a constant current density mode, enabling scalable production with controlled size and surface functionalization. GQDs-4 and GQDs-20, synthesized at applied current densities of 4 mA/cm2 and 20 mA/cm2 to the graphite electrode, respectively, were investigated on roles of surface states and exciplex dominated aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in their ECL performance.

The brain entropy (BEN) reflects the randomness of brain activity and is inversely related to its temporal coherence. In recent years, BEN has been found to be associated with a number of neurocognitive, biological, and sociodemographic variables such as fluid intelligence, age, sex, and education. However, evidence regarding the potential relationship between BEN and brain structure is still lacking.

A novel aerobic marine bacterium, FRT2, isolated from surface water of a fishing port in Fukui, Japan, was characterised based on phylogenomic and phylogenetic analyses combined with classical phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characterisations. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain FRT2 clustered with genus Leeuwenhoekiella. Closest relatives of FRT2 were Leeuwenhoekiella palythoae KMM 6264 and Leeuwenhoekiella nanhaiensis G18 with 16S rRNA gene sequence identities of 95.

In a systematic study, six pseudopolymorphic coordination polymers containing the ditopic 1,3-di(pyridin-4-yl)urea ligand (4bpu) constructed with d metal cations, possessing the formula {[M(4bpu)I]S} [(M = Zn, Cd and Hg), (S = MeOH or EtOH)], namely Zn-MeOH, Zn-EtOH, Cd-MeOH, Cd-EtOH, Hg- and Hg-EtOH were obtained. The title compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD), elemental analysis (CHN), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). The diffraction studies show that these compounds are isostructural 1D zig-zag chain coordination polymers which is also confirmed using XPac 2.
