Metal-organic framework (MOF) derived porous carbon materials have been widely applied as active materials for supercapacitors due to their large specific surface area and ordered pore structure. This paper presents a facile and effective strategy to regulate the morphology of a zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-trimesic acid, Zn-BTC) by adjusting the ethanol content in a solvent, which can effectively change the pore structure of Zn-BTC derived porous carbon (PC). The optimal PC prepared in 50% ethanol displays a rodlike structure with a large specific surface area (SSA) of 1930 m g and an average pore size of 2.9 nm. This material shows an excellent rate performance with 78.8% capacitance retention when the current density increases from 1 A g to 100 A g and outstanding electrochemical stability with only 2.2% decline of capacitance after 200 000 cycles at 50 A g. Moreover, the assembled symmetrical capacitor shows a high energy density of 16.09 W h kg at 698 W kg and 11.89 W h kg at a high power density of 41.56 kW kg. This method would provide a new pathway for the preparation of carbon materials with an adjustable pore size for high-performance supercapacitors.

Background: Incorporating organic manure improves soil properties and crop productivity. A long-term study started in October 1967 examined the effects of farmyard manure and nitrogen fertilization on the soil at key growth stages of pearl millet in a pearl millet-wheat cropping system over its 51st cycle.

Results: Applying 15 Mg of farmyard manure (FYM) per hectare in both growing seasons significantly boosted soil organic carbon (SOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and key nutrients compared to one-season application.

In order to explore the management and treatment methods of solid waste in the Controlled Ecological Life Support System (CELSS) of future lunar bases, during the 4-crew 180-day integrated experiment, the Solid Waste Management and Treatment System (SWMTS) was built, in which the treatment of recyclable solid waste such as inedible plant parts and human excrement was completed through a combination of biological aerobic composting and high-temperature oxidation. Basic data on the types and amounts of solid waste generated during the 4-crew 180-day experiment mission were obtained. There were six types of solid wastes, including the work support wastes, the household support wastes, the plant cultivation wastes, the plant-based wastes, and crew feces.

Biomass, as a source of lignocellulose, can be valorized into carbon micro/nanofibers for adsorbing greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions, especially CO. This article is derived from systematic evidence evaluation of published studies, presenting new, innovative, and systemic approaches to lignocellulose-based carbon micro/nanofiber studies. The review covers a general overview of carbon micro/nanofiber studies, mapping chronicles of the studies, carbon micro/nanofiber types for CO uptake, carbon micro/nanofibers fabrication and characterization, obtained carbonaceous material activation and performances, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability.

Bio-valorization of agri-food wastes lies in their possible conversion into fermented foodstuffs/beverages and/or biodegradable polymers such as bacterial cellulose. In this study, three different kombucha cultures were formulated using agri-food waste materials, citrus fruit residues and used coffee grounds, as alternative carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. Over 21 days of fermentation, the kinetic profile was followed by monitoring cell number, pH variation, minerals, trace elements and production of bacterial cellulose.

The increasing reliance on electronic devices has created a pressing demand for high-performance and sustainable electromagnetic interference shielding materials. While conventional materials, such as metals and carbon-based composites, offer excellent shielding capabilities, they are hindered by high costs, environmental concerns, and limitations in scalability. Polysaccharide-based materials, including cellulose, chitosan, and alginate, represent a promising alternative due to their biodegradability, renewability, and versatility.
