Narrow Complex Tachycardias.

Emerg Med Clin North Am

Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA.

Published: November 2022

Narrow-complex tachycardias are commonly seen on shift in the emergency department. Although a portion of patients present with hemodynamic instability because of arrhythmia, it is important to know that the tachycardia can be a result of an underlying condition. Rapid identification of the type and etiology of the arrhythmia is vital to directing appropriate management strategies and disposition decisions.

Advances in Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring.

Molecules

December 2024

Jiangxi Province Key Laboratory of Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Gannan Medical University, Ganzhou 341000, China.

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is pivotal for optimizing drug dosage regimens in individual patients, particularly for drugs with a narrow therapeutic index. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has shown great potential in TDM due to high sensitivity, non-destructive analysis, specific fingerprint spectrum, low sample consumption, simple operation, and low ongoing costs. Due to the rapid development of SERS for TDM, a review focusing on the analytical method is presented to better understand the trends.

Growing evidence suggests that diets high in ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are harming human and planetary health. UPFs therefore pose a complex regulatory challenge, yet, to date, little research has systematically assessed how governments have responded to UPFs in national food policies. Here we analyse data from the NOURISHING database to assess the scope and strength of UPF-related regulatory interventions worldwide, using three frameworks-namely, NOURISHING, the Nuffield Ladder and the Modalities of Control framework.

Objective: Humanity faces many health challenges, among which respiratory diseases are one of the leading causes of human death. Existing AI-driven pre-diagnosis approaches can enhance the efficiency of diagnosis but still face challenges. For example, single-modal data suffer from information redundancy or loss, difficulty in learning relationships between features, and revealing the obscure characteristics of complex diseases.

Accurate identification of cancer cells under complex physiological environments holds great promise for noninvasive diagnosis and personalized medicine. Herein, we developed dual-aptamer-based DNA logic-gated series lamp probes (Apt-SLP) by coupling a DNA cell-classifier (DCC) with a self-powered signal-amplifier (SSA), enabling rapid and sensitive identification of cancer cells in a blood sample. DCC is endowed with two extended-aptamer based modules for recognizing the two cascade cell membrane receptors and serves as a DNA logic gate to pinpoint a particular and narrow subpopulation of cells from a larger population of similar cells.

Epithelial cell collectives migrate through tissue interfaces and crevices to orchestrate development processes, tumor invasion, and wound healing. Naturally, the traversal of cell collective through confining environments involves crowding due to narrowing spaces, which seems tenuous given the conventional inverse relationship between cell density and migration. However, the physical transitions required to overcome such epithelial densification for migration across confinements remain unclear.
