Background: Arterial hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy and remodeling are independent cardiovascular risk factors in patients with Cushing's syndrome. Changes in the renin-angiotensin system and in the mineralocorticoid axis activity could be involved as potential mechanisms in their pathogenesis, in addition to cortisol excess.
Methods: In this ancillary study of our previous study prospectively investigating patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (NCT02202902), 11 patients without any interfering medication were cross-sectionally compared to 20 control subjects matched for age, sex and body mass index.

Although numerous definitions of brain death exist, the diagnosis and diagnostic process remain open to interpretation. We present the case of a 32-year-old male with systemic lupus erythematosus who presented to an outside hospital following a cardiac arrest while jogging. His electroencephalogram (EEG) showed abnormal contour in the posterior fields.

Background: Dysphagia and retrosternal chest pain are considered typical manifestations of major esophageal motility disorders (mEMD). High-resolution manometry (HRM) is the gold standard for mEMD diagnosis, while endoscopy and barium swallow are ancillary tools. We aimed to investigate the frequency of mEMD among patients referred for HRM with typical compared to non-typical symptoms.

Purpose: We report a single case of ocular decompression retinopathy (ODR) following neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser peripheral iridotomy (Nd:YAG LPI) for primary acute angle-closure glaucoma associated with delayed visual recovery secondary to optic nerve head edema and macular thickening.
Observations: A 56-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department with primary acute angle-closure glaucoma. After topical and IV therapy did not improve intraocular pressure (IOP), an Nd:YAG LPI was performed.

Introduction: Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) encompasses a constellation of rare to common gynecologic conditions stemming from aberrant gestations with distinct genetic backgrounds and variable degrees of trophoblast proliferation of either neoplastic or non-neoplastic nature. GTD is categorized into hydatidiform moles and gestational trophoblastic neoplasms, and their clinical outcomes vary widely across different subtypes. Prompt and accurate diagnosis plays a pivotal role in the effective management and prognostication of patients.
