To explore the physiological and behavioral responses of male and female under hypoxia stress, an experiment with three dissolved oxygen (DO) levels (6.46, 4.48 and 3.27 mg·L, 6.46 mg·L as control) was conducted. The enzyme activities of energy metabolism in hepatopancreas and muscles of male and female . were measured after six days of hypoxia stress. The results showed that the enzyme activities of aerobic metabolism in muscles and swimming abilities were significantly decreased as DO decreased from 6.46 mg·L to 4.48 mg·L, with the decreases being less in males than females. There was no significant difference in enzyme activities of anaerobic metabolism. When DO was further decreased to 3.27 mg·L, the enzyme activities of aerobic metabolism and anaerobic metabolism in muscles significantly decreased. The activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in anaerobic metabolism of hepatopancreas and tail-flipping speeds significantly decreased in males and females, with less decrease in females than that in males for LDH activity of hepatopancreas. The swimming ability was positively correlated with the enzyme activities of aerobic metabolism in pleopods muscles. There was significant correlation between tail-flipping abilities and enzyme activities of anaerobic metabolism. . could reduce its reliance on energy metabolism during hypoxia stress, but with negative consequences on locomotor abilities. The muscles were preferentially powered to meet energy requirements of locomotion in males, while females gave priority to energy supply for hepatopancreas under insufficient oxygen conditions.

Introduction: Cryptorchidism impairs sperm development and increases the risk of infertility and testicular cancer. Estrogen signalling is critical for proper descent of the testicles, and hormonal imbalances play a role in cryptorchidism. CYP19, also known as aromatase, encodes an enzyme that converts testosterone, a male sex hormone, into estradiol, the main form of estrogen.

A number of studies have been demonstrated that arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX-5) plays a role in regulating a range of physiological and pathological processes through the catalysis of leukotriene formation from arachidonic acid (ARA). The coding sequence of ALOX-5 from Apostichopus japonicus (Aj-ALOX-5) was successfully amplified, resulting in a 2028 bp ORF sequence that encodes 674 amino acids. A comparison of the amino acid sequence with those of other 5-lipoxygenases revealed that Aj-ALOX-5 has the N-terminal "PLAT domain" and C-terminal "lipoxygenase structural domain" characteristic of this enzyme family.

Nitrate reductase (NR) is an essential enzyme because of its role in nitrogen metabolism and in key signaling events through the generation of the reactive nitrogen species, nitric oxide (NO). In this work, we evaluated changes in endogenous NO levels during the onset of P-restriction in soybean plants (Glycine max), focusing on the possible pathways involved in its generation, namely NR and NO synthase like activity, NOS, and the subsequent role of NR during low P-acclimation. During the first 96h of P-starvation NO levels increased in the leaves.
