Many parasitic infections essentially pose a significant public health problem throughout the world. However, the consequence of the issue is felt more among developing countries like India. This is majorly due to unsatisfactory hygienic practices and overcrowding, among others. Moreover, taeniasis caused by the parasites and is a zoonotic infection transmitted via pigs and cattle, respectively. Even though the animals are the primary hosts where the parasite lives, humans also can suffer from infestation after consuming the eggs in contaminated food and water. Interestingly, there is a lower level of awareness regarding such types of infections in humans. On the contrary, most physicians and some people know that parasite transmission generally happens from the consumption of raw/undercooked pork and beef, which may result in a more serious consequence like neurocysticercosis. However, infestation in the intestines equally affects humans where people become reservoirs of infection, and suffer from severe morbidity. We present a case of worm infestation in a teenage girl who presented with severe peri-anal itching and motile worms in the stools.

Quercetin, a vital flavonoid found in many medicinal plants, has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous, anti-aging, anti-tumour, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and anti-protozoal activity. However, very little is known of its anthelmintic activity; there is no literature against tapeworm infection so far. The present study was performed to expose its cestocidal role by using the zoonotic tapeworm as a parasite model.

Introduction: Schistosomiasis has for many years relied on a single drug, praziquantel (PZQ) for treatment of the disease. Immense efforts have been invested in the discovery of protein kinase (PK) inhibitors; however, given that the majority of PKs are still not targeted by an inhibitor with a useful level of selectivity, there is a compelling need to expand the chemical space available for synthesizing new, potent, and selective PK inhibitors. Small-molecule inhibitors targeting the ATP pocket of the catalytic domain of PKs have the potential to become drugs devoid of (major) side effects, particularly if they bind selectively.

Gastrointestinal nematodes (GINs) are among the most common parasites of humans, livestock, and companion animals. GIN parasites infect 1-2 billion people worldwide, significantly impacting hundreds of millions of children, pregnant women, and adult workers, thereby perpetuating poverty. Two benzimidazoles with suboptimal efficacy are currently used to treat GINs in humans as part of mass drug administrations, with many instances of lower-than-expected or poor efficacy and possible resistance.
