The planar title compound 4,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxol-2-one, CHO, , crystallizes with its mol-ecular axis coincident with a crystallographic mirror plane in space group 2/. In the plane defined by the axis and an face diagonal, anti-parallel linear strands of , formed by simple translation, associate to form sheets with close H⋯H and O⋯O inter-molecular contacts. Between the sheets, parallel strands of place the carbonyl O atom near the five-membered ring centroid of a neighboring mol-ecule with close O⋯O and O⋯C contacts.

Tether-directed electrosynthesis of [60]fullerene derivatives fused with 5-membered azacycle and 13-membered carbocycle, that is, bicyclic 1,4,9,12- and 1,2,4,15-adducts, has been achieved unexpectedly for the first time. The novel bicyclic [60]fullerene derivatives are obtained by the electrochemical reduction of [60]fullerene-fused indolines or lactams and subsequent regioselective cyclization with 2,2″-bis(bromomethyl)-1,1':3',1″-terphenyl. The product structures have been characterized by spectroscopic data and single-crystal X-ray analysis.

I am Distinguished Professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at University of California, Los Angeles, where I was hired in 1985 as the first female assistant professor in the department. I received my PhD from University of California, San Diego, under the guidance of Professor David Kearns, where I used NMR spectroscopy to study drug binding to random sequence DNA and published the first two-dimensional NMR spectra of short synthetic DNA duplexes. From 1982-1985 I was a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Postdoctoral fellow in the Professor Alexander Rich laboratory, where I investigated structures of Z-DNA by NMR.

The present study introduces a novel formulation approach for utilizing Lyotropic Liquid Crystals (LLCs) as sustained oral delivery systems. For this purpose, we have developed a novel bottom-up fabrication process that enables the LLC beads to be formulated with precise control over their diameter by pre-determining their surface area. By directly controlling the effective diffusional interfacial surface of the LLCs, their release rate from the LLC beads can be determined.

In this study, a ternary hydrotalcite of Mg/Al/Fe/SDBS-LDHs was synthesized via a hydrothermal method, utilizing sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) as a modifier. The prepared Mg/Al/Fe/SDBS-LDHs were characterized using FT-IR, SEM, XRD, TG, BET, ESR and XPS techniques. The CV removal process was monitored and analyzed using UV-vis spectroscopy, DFT and LC-MS methods.

The development of superior non-noble-metal-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is essential for large-scale hydrogen production. In this study, an integrated porous nanosheet NiP-NiP heterostructures were designed as an excellent OER electrocatalyst. The synthesized heterostructures demonstrated notable activity, achieving a small overpotential of 260 mV to sustain a typical 10 mA cm current density, along with exceptional durability over 2000 CV cycles.
