Background: The global mpox outbreak which started in May 2022 was caused by a novel clade IIb variant of the mpox virus (MPXV). It differed from the traditional Western and Central Africa disease in transmission patterns and clinical presentation.
Methods: To address the need for detailed clinical and virologic data, we conducted an observational cohort study (MOSAIC) during May 2022-July 2023 in individuals with confirmed MPXV infection enrolled in six European Countries.

The gene associated with the retinoid-IFN-induced mortality-19 (GRIM-19) protein is a regulator of a cell death regulatory protein that inhibits STAT3, which is a critical transcription factor for interleukin (IL)-17-producing T (Th17) cells and a key integrator of extracellular matrix accumulation in systemic sclerosis (SSc). This protein is also a component of mitochondrial complex I, where it directly binds to STAT3 and recruits STAT3 to the mitochondria via the mitochondrial importer Tom20. In this study, the role of GRIM19 and its relationship with STAT3 in SSc development was investigated using a murine model of SSc.

Background: Infectious diseases, particularly the Goatpox virus (GTPV) from the Poxviridae family, significantly impact livestock health and agricultural economies, especially in developing regions. Recent GTPV outbreaks in previously eradicated areas underscore the need for effective control measures, with vaccination being the most reliable strategy. This study investigates the effects of administering standard and double doses of live attenuated goatpox vaccine in pregnant Murcia-Granada goats, a non-native breed in Iran, to determine optimal vaccination protocols.

From the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, Florida, USA.
Occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) emerges as a salient concern within the context of firefighters, a professional cohort routinely exposed to an array of hazardous substances as an intrinsic facet of their occupational responsibilities. This continual skin exposure to a spectrum of allergenic and irritant agents engenders an elevated predisposition to OCD among firefighters. Notably, the ramifications of OCD in the domain of occupational health assume substantial import, contributing significantly to the prevalence of work-related dermatological maladies and consequential productivity decrements.
