We present two case reports in which, in a surprising way, readable writing or numbers on the aspirated material provided useful information about the more detailed circumstances of the aspiration. In the first case, the patient complained of foreign body sensation after using a metered dose inhaler. A few hours later, the initially unknown aspirated material was recovered by flexible bronchoscopy. With the help of the text fragment on the material, it could be concluded that it was the packaging foil of a candy, which had entered the mouthpiece of the metered dose inhaler while stored in the patient's jacket pocket. In the second case, the patient experienced recurrent pneumonia over a period of years. With the help of the serial number on the bronchoscopically recovered plastic material, the exact time and place of aspiration could be determined. The patient had aspirated the plastic label of a spare part during his occupational activity in a car repair shop.

Metal-protein hybrid materials represent a novel class of functional materials that exhibit exceptional physicochemical properties and tunable structures, rendering them remarkable applications in diverse fields, including materials engineering, biocatalysis, biosensing, and biomedicine. The design and development of multifunctional and biocompatible metal-protein hybrid materials have been the subject of extensive research and a key aspiration for practical applications in clinical settings. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the design strategies, intrinsic properties, and biomedical applications of these hybrid materials, with a specific emphasis on their potential in cancer therapy, drug and vaccine delivery, antibacterial treatments, and tissue regeneration.

Introduction: Diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas are associated with dismal survival outcomes. Conventional fractionation radiation to a dose of 60 Gy is the standard of treatment. This retrospective review aims to compare survival and toxicity outcomes of patients treated with conventional fractionation (CF) and hypofractionation (HF) radiotherapy.

In this article, we report on the research on the synthesis of composites based on a porous, highly ordered silica material modified by a metallic nanophase and chitosan biofilm. Due to the ordered pore system of the SBA-15 silica, this material proved to be a good carrier for both the biologically active nanophase (highly dispersed silver nanoparticles, AgNPs) and the adsorption active phase (chitosan). The antimicrobial susceptibility was determined against Gram-positive ATCC 25923, Gram-negative bacterial strains ( ATCC 25922, ATCC 700603, and ATCC 27853), and yeast ATCC 90028.

: Oropharyngeal dysphagia is a common swallowing disorder, characterized by difficulties in moving food and liquids from the mouth to the esophagus; it is particularly prevalent among older adults with neurological conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a short-term complex treatment protocol combining dietary modifications, swallowing exercises, and transcutaneous neuromuscular electrostimulation in reducing the oropharyngeal dysphagia severity and aspiration risk among geriatric patients. : A total of 64 participants aged 60 and older, with oropharyngeal dysphagia, at LSMU Kaunas Hospital between May 2021 and April 2023, were included in the study after excluding those with significant comorbidities.

Objective: This study aimed to compare bone marrow aspirate (BMA) multicolor flow cytometry (MFC) analysis and bone marrow biopsy (BMB) in detecting bone marrow (BM) involvement in children with neuroblastoma (NB) at diagnosis and during follow-up.
Materials And Methods: A total of 132 BM samples from 39 patients (M/F ratio: 19/20; median age: 38 months) with neuroblastoma were simultaneously obtained for evaluation. The samples were investigated for BM involvement using BMB and MFC.
