A 31-year-old male with acute blurred vision and respiratory distress occurring three days after a penile filler injection was found to have outer plexiform layer hyperreflectivity on optical coherence tomography (OCT), consistent with paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM). He was diagnosed with diffuse bilateral pneumonitis and silicone embolism syndrome requiring inpatient management. Following systemic stabilization, his vision and OCT findings improved. PAMM may be associated with silicone embolism syndrome in the presence of acute central scotomas and minimal retinal findings. Penile filler injections could contribute to retinal vaso-occlusion via an embolic process. PAMM may be self-limited and result in functional vision. .

The reliable engraftment of skin grafts into areas with complex shapes can be challenging. Here, we report a case of successful fixation of a genital skin graft using negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with RENASYS Cotton Filler. A 44-year-old male with no relevant medical history underwent split-thickness skin grafting for a genital skin defect caused by Fournier's gangrene.

Article Synopsis
  • Penile augmentation reflects human creativity in medical science, with a historical overview of enhancement methods such as snake bites, herbs, and traction therapy in ancient times.
  • Modern techniques now include injectable fillers and grafting for increasing girth, while lengthening methods involve V-Y advancement and suspensory ligamentolysis.
  • Despite potential size gains from these strategies, there are risks of complications and variable psychological effects on patient satisfaction.

Tailoring the mechanical properties of macro-porous PVA hydrogels for biomedical applications.

Electronic address:

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a biocompatible biopolymer with superior dimensional and mechanical stability when compared to naturally available biomaterials such as collagen and gelatin. Furthermore, PVA in hydrogel form behaves non-linearly during mechanical loading, generating a response like soft biological tissues. Generally, PVA hydrogels are fabricated using freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs) and changing the number of FTCs gives control over its mechanical properties.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares the outcomes of three types of dermal fillers (Hyaluronic Acid, Polylactic Acid, and Polymethyl Methacrylate) used for penile augmentation in men over a 24-week period.
  • - Results showed that PMA fillers produced the greatest increase in penile girth, followed by HLA and PLA, although satisfaction levels rose the least in the PMA group.
  • - No serious adverse events were reported, and while local side effects occurred in all groups, the differences in incidence were not significant, implying that patient choice for filler type should consider both effectiveness and personal satisfaction.

Article Synopsis
  • The rising interest in penile enhancement procedures is driven by men's desires for improved genital appearance and self-esteem, highlighting the need for personalized medical assessments.
  • This comprehensive review analyzes data from recent studies to evaluate outcomes, complications, and the overall quality of life post-penile augmentation surgery, encompassing various surgical techniques.
  • While these surgeries can address concerns about penis size, the potential risks and complications associated with the procedures must be carefully considered before proceeding.
