This study focused on the effects of CCFM1078 on the intestinal barrier and systemic inflammation of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats. Female rats were divided into three groups with daily intragastric administration of either saline (control group and model group) or CCFM1078 (CCFM1078 group, 3 × 10cfu/rat per day) for 5 weeks. In the Model and CCFM1078 groups, arthritis was induced by subcutaneous collagen injection. We found that CCFM1078 can repair the intestinal barrier, reduce LPS translocation, regulate gut microbiota composition, and increase short-chain fatty acids in the intestine. Then, it can reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines release, adjust immune dysfunction, and inhibit TLR4-MyD88-dependent pathways and downstream inflammatory pathways to alleviate joint inflammation in CIA rats. These findings suggest that CCFM1078 may alleviate joint inflammation by adjusting the profile of gut microbiota and enhancing the intestinal barrier.

Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) have gained attention for their capacity to regulate human health as prebiotics. Osteosarcopenia is a progressive disease of the musculoskeletal system and result in heavy burden of patients. Studies suggest that gut microbiota is involved in the pathogenesis of osteosarcopenia, whether AOS can improve the symptoms of osteosarcopenia by modulating gut microbiota remains to be elucidated.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Huanglian Ganjiang decoction (HGD), which is composed of Chinese medicines with cold, warm, and astringent properties, has demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy in ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear, highlighting the need for a multi-faceted investigation. Disassembling prescriptions is a crucial approach for investigating compatibility mechanisms.

Obesity, as a global health crisis, is increasingly linked to intestinal microecology. Probiotics colonise the body, effectively regulating the balance of intestinal flora, while strengthening the intestinal barrier, activating the immune response, releasing beneficial substances, and maintaining micro-ecological balance. This process not only enhances the defence against pathogens, but also reduces the production of inflammatory factors and lowers the level of chronic inflammation.

Maintaining lipid homeostasis is important for intestinal and body health. Litchi flower essential oil (LFEO), mainly containing 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-, α-Curcumene, Gamma.-Sitosterol, α-linolenic acid, β-Bisabolene and n-Hexadecanoic acid, has been demonstrated significant anti-obesity activity.

Nanoparticles (NPs) have been explored as drugs carriers for treating tumors and central nervous system (CNS) diseases and for oral administration. However, they lack satisfactory clinical efficacy due to poor extravasation and infiltration through biological barriers to target tissues. Most clinical antitumor NPs have been designed based on enhanced permeability and retention effects which are insufficient and heterogeneous in human tumors.
