Enthesitis, or inflammation specific to sites in the body where tendon inserts into bone, can arise in isolated joints from overuse or in multiple joints as a complication of an autoimmune condition such as psoriatic arthritis or spondyloarthritis. However, the pathogenesis of enthesitis is not well understood, so treatment strategies are limited. A clinically relevant animal model of enthesitis would allow investigators to determine mechanisms driving the disease and evaluate novel therapies.

The mechanism of fibrosis at the patella-patellar tendon junction (PPTJ) was investigated using a rabbit overuse jumping model. Thiry-two female New Zealand White rabbits were randomly divided into control and jumping groups, and each group was further divided into four groups at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. The rabbits in the jumping group jumped 150 times per day, 5 days per week.

Overuse injury is a frequent diagnosis in occupational medicine and athletics. Using an established model of upper extremity overuse, we sought to characterize changes occurring in the forepaws and forelimbs of mature female rats (14-18 months of age). Thirty-three rats underwent a 4-week shaping period, before performing a high-repetition low-force (HRLF) task for 12 weeks, with the results being compared to 32 mature controls.

Background: Radiographs are frequently obtained after total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) to confirm implant placement and follow the status of the bone and prostheses; however, standardization of their use is lacking. There are concerns regarding frequent use of radiographs due to their cost and patient radiation exposure. The aim of this study is to assess the postoperative radiograph frequency and efficacy in primary anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with transfemoral amputation often face issues related to socket fit and overuse injuries due to uneven joint stress, which can be improved by using bone-anchored prosthetics that connect directly to the bone.
  • This study investigates the relationship between the alignment of the femur and pelvis and how it impacts hip loading asymmetry during walking, both before and one year after receiving a bone-anchored limb implant.
  • The analysis included 19 participants from a larger group who underwent the surgery, comparing their skeletal alignment and hip motion data collected at two different time points to determine the effects of the implantation on their mobility and joint loading.
